BURLEIGH COUNTY HUMAN SERVICE ZONE

Summary of Work


The Children & Family Services Department provides or accesses a wide range of services for deprived children and their families. The primary responsibility of this position (08-5720) is to provide wraparound case management services for families with children in foster care or at risk of foster care placement.

Duties and Tasks

  • Facilitating for the wraparound team and implementing coordinated intervention for assigned families.
  • Formulating a family service plan with help of the family and other community partners.
  • Using identified skills and knowledge of families to promote reunification and/or to keep the family together.
  • Maintaining case management documentation and appropriate recording of activity records.
  • Providing crisis intervention and emergency services; Participating in an on-call emergency services after-hours rotation.
  • Attending trainings and staff development opportunities; Maintaining a working knowledge of applicable laws, policies, and regulations relating to child welfare services.
  • Implementing foster care / in-home case management services and related court activity.
  • This position requires frequent travel throughout the Bismarck/Burleigh County area.

Minimum Qualifications


Family Service Specialist III (SC7005)

Requires a bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Human Development, Education, Human Services, Child Development and Family Science, Human Resource Management (human service track), or Criminal Justice and two years of professional work experience as a social worker, child protective service worker, or professional case manager. A master's degree in one of the areas above may substitute for one year of the work experience requirement.

If unable to fill as a Family Service Specialist III we will consider filling as a Family Service Specialist II (SC7004), which requires a bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Human Development, Education, Human Services, Child Development and Family Science, Human Resource Management (human service track), or Criminal Justice and one year of professional work experience as a social worker, child protective service worker, or professional case manager.

If unable to fill as a Family Service Specialist II we will consider filling as a Family Service Specialist I (SC7004), which requires a bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Human Development, Education, Human Services, Child Development and Family Science, Human Resource Management (human service track), or Criminal Justice.


Additional Requirements:

  • At the time of interview, applicants must submit three professional references. (A minimum of two references must be supervisory references.) Please include reference name, relation to applicant, and current telephone number.
  • Candidates must successfully complete a standard background and criminal record check.
  • Candidates must have a valid driver's license with clean driving record, a reliable vehicle for transportation, and adequate auto insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience working with children and families in high risk environments.
