GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Food Service Worker for the Martin De Porres School will be responsible for the maintenance of all areas related to food service production, safety, and sanitation. This person will also be responsible for the serving of meals, helping with the preparation of meal, monitoring students on the food line, and unpacking and packing deliveries into storage areas.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure that appropriate food items and meal patterns are provided to our students that meet the requirements of the Food Nutrition Program
• Ensure that meals provided are attractive in appearance, meet temperature requirements and have palatable flavor
• Comply with all health and sanitary requirements as issued by local governmental agencies dealing with food preparation, storage and cooking mandates
• Label and Date food items as required for health and safety
• Cleaning/dishwashing of all pots, pans, dishes, utensils
• Collect, remove and dispose of garbage as required
• Ensure that leftovers are minimized to reduce food waste
• Maintain a clean and sanitary cafeteria, kitchen area
• Ensure that the daily student participation meal count is undertaken
• Ensure that universal precautions are followed by those handling food during school hours
• Able to walk and stand for 90% of designated working hours.
• Able to lift loads in excess of 50 lbs. (cases of meat), and push loads over 20 lbs.(food carts)
• Ability to withstand cold temperatures of 45 to 20 degrees in walk-in refrigerators and freezers; and hot temperatures possibly over 100 degrees in cooking area.
• Able to climb stairs, bend, stoop, reach over shoulders
• Ensure that first aid equipment is present and visible in the food service areas at our school
• And all other job related duties as assigned by the Martin de Porres School administration

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma of Equivalency Diploma
• Food Handlers Certificate/Safe-serve

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of 2 years experience in food service industry
• Minimum of one years working in school or similar setting

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Demonstrated ability to follow all Federal and NY State food service, cooking, storage and sanitation guidelines
• Demonstrated ability to obtain daily student participation count according to the criteria outlined by the NYS Nutrition Program
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with school administration and other school personnel
• Demonstrated ability to insure a safe and sanitary work environment
• Demonstrated ability to implement appropriate temperature controls that effect the delivery of any meal provided at our school
• Demonstrated ability to positively diminish the amount of food that is throw away
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate verbally and in writing
