Location: Remote/Virtual - Michigan Residency Preferred

Purpose: Employees in this job participate in all aspects of programmatic financial coordination including budget preparation, monitoring expenditures, analyzing accounts, producing programmatic financial reports, and performing a variety of accounting/financial and administrative related tasks. This is the intermediate level. The employee performs an expanding range of financial and accounting related assignments in a developing capacity. There is an increased responsibility for performing a range of financial coordinator-related assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process accounts payable/receivable, purchase orders, expense reimbursements/advances, leased vehicle payments, and subcontractor payments and ensure timely submission to the Finance & Contracts office for payment.
  • Analyze project expenses and revenue.
  • Serve as a financial liaison to MPHI Finance & Contracts office.
  • Identify and investigate inaccuracies within project accounts and work with staff to correct inaccuracies.
  • Review financial reports and ensure allocated funds meet grant requirements.
  • Verify time entry is completed by staff and double check that short text is added where necessary.
  • Track and monitor time for FTE accuracy and potential errors.
  • Process accounts payable/receivable, purchase orders, expense reimbursements & advances, journal vouchers, and ensure timely submission to the Finance & Contracts office.
  • Aid to support comparing financial data from various systems and identify discrepancies.
  • Identify and investigate inaccuracies within project accounts and work with staff to correct inaccuracies.
  • Communicate directly with subcontractors when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot issues in the areas of accounts payable, employee expense reimbursements & advances, contract regulations and subcontracts content to ensure quality assurance and compliance with grant agreements, proposals, and project budgets.
  • Manage budgets and work plans and set up proper tracking templates to monitor.
  • Independently monitor budget expenditures and analyze project spending.
  • Independently run financial reports and analysis on projects as needed.
  • Support administrative tasks for running financial reports as needed.
  • Compare financial data from various systems and identify discrepancies.
  • Perform account analysis and reconciliation for all accounts and communicate directly with the project coordinator/manager on any identified issue.
  • Ensure compliance with MPHI financial policies and procedures.
  • Maintain proven proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity; treat program information as confidential.
  • Strong commitment to MPHI Core Values and a demonstrated history of use in action.
  • Maintain a positive, strong, credible, professional, and interpersonal relationship with all parties relevant to MPHI projects and always represent the best interest of MPHI.

Qualifications/Requirements:


Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance field preferred and often required for advancement to upper levels for this job specification. Will consider candidates with a combination of education and experience on an individual anti-oppressive basis.

Experience: 3-5 years of professional office experience, working in the financial field required.

  • Moderate experience working in financial and/or general accounting practices.
  • Moderate experience with office/project administration.
  • Intermediate experience working with Microsoft applications, data analysis programs.
  • Intermediate experience with reporting and/or technical writing.

  • Proven proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Proficient in developing spreadsheets and electronic database systems.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Some tasks may require travel. May require a valid vehicle operator’s license where needed to perform duties of this position. This position may require minimal physical effort including lifting materials and equipment of <25# and involves viewing a CRT or VDT screen 50% to 100% of the time.
