ACT’s products and assessments provide opportunities for students and professionals to demonstrate their knowledge, skill, and potential. ACT develops tests that cover a range of content areas and grade levels, supporting K–12 and the workplace.

ACT is looking for independent and impartial individuals to serve as Fairness Consultants. In their reviews of ACT assessments, fairness reviewers identify where factors other than the academic and workplace skills and knowledge tested may intrude on performance and detract from the accuracy of the assessment. The feedback provided by Fairness Consultants helps further assure that the materials are fair, equitable, and inclusive to all. Their work helps us fulfill our mission to open doors of opportunity for increased equity, access, and success.

ACT endorses the Code of Fair Testing Practices in Education (1988) and the obligations to test takers it imposes on those who develop, administer, and use educational tests and data.

At ACT, the work of ensuring test fairness starts with the design of the test specifications and then continues through every stage of the test development process, including item (question) writing and review, item pretesting, item selection and forms construction, and forms review. ACT makes every effort to see that all the tests are fair to the populations for whom the tests are intended.

ACT values the diverse backgrounds and perspectives our Fairness Consultants bring to their work, and we are always striving to further broaden the ethnic, racial, gender, socio-economic, and geographic diversity represented.

Time Commitment:

• Varies based on the project; 5–30 hours per project

Compensation:

Minimum qualifications:

• Sensitivity to and knowledge of diversity and inclusion and an ability to apply that to the evaluation process
• Education industry experience preferred—including teachers, school counselors, and school administrators
• Learning services expertise in any of the following areas:
• Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
• Social, Emotional Learning
• Experience in any of the following areas:
• Content development
• Test preparation
• Curriculum coordination or development
• Comfortable learning new online systems for reviewing
• Must not be reviewing or developing work for other testing companies or products

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience working with populations of color, populations with disabilities, and/or English as a second language (ESL) populations is highly desirable
