Position Summary

Merrill Steel has an in-house 150,000 square foot climate-controlled paint shop allowing the painters to paint columns, trusses, I-beams and other structural steel surfaces using airless high-pressure paint guns. The types of paint applied include zinc, epoxy, and urethane. Projects also require complex coating systems such as corrosion resistant coatings and intumescent fire protection.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Apply paint, enamel, epoxy and other finishes to structural steel, and/or other steel components, using airless high-pressure spray equipment, brushes, or rollers.

- Read production prints or receive instructions from supervisors in order to determine work requirements.

- Mix epoxy and other coatings with thinning and drying additives in order to obtain desired consistency.

- Able to gauge depth of paint being applied, so that it meets customer specifications.

- Able to use depth gauge equipment to measure paint.

• Flexible Scheduling: First shift employees have the option to start at 5, 6, or 7 am Monday – Friday. Fridays are flexible and Saturdays are voluntary. Second shift operates Monday – Thursday from 3:30 pm – 3:00 am, Fridays are voluntary. Second shift employees receive a night shift premium of $1.60/hour effective immediately.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
