Position Summary: Greenfield Main Street (GMSI) seeks a self-motivated and enthusiastic Executive Director to partner with its Board of Directors and the City of Greenfield to bring awareness to this vibrant community. The Executive Director will work with various stakeholders including, residents, property and business owners, community leaders, and visitors by:

  • Building strong relationships
  • Fostering economic and cultural vibrancy
  • Fundraising and event planning
  • Engaging community members in volunteer capacities
  • Contributing to downtown improvements

GMSI is an accredited Indiana Main Street by the Office of Community and Rural Affairs. It is governed by an engaged board of volunteers dedicated to the support of the organization’s mission and the National Main Street Four-Point Approach: Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization. Essential responsibilities for the Executive Director position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership for the organization.
  • Work as an effective partner with the Board in executing the vision and strategic plan.
  • Confer regularly with the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. Work as a team with the Board President, officers and committee chairs, and assists with the development of goals, long-range planning, and strategic plan progress reports.
  • Assist the Board President in planning and preparation of Board and Executive Committee agendas, as well as provide supporting information on relevant issues and develops strategies for implementing Board decisions.
  • Ensure communication between committees is well-established and assist the committees with implementation of work plan items.
  • Engage community members to chair committees and attend committee meetings as necessary.
  • Support and encourage downtown economic development strategies.
  • Develop strong relationships with members of the community including residents, property and business owners, and community leaders to enhance community development efforts.
  • Maintain required records related to economic monitoring, individual building files, photographic documentation of physical changes, as well as statistics on job creation and business retention.
  • Participate in place-making endeavors that encourage community engagement.
  • Together with the Board of Directors the Executive Director will identify funders, submit grant proposals, request sponsorships, encourage new and renewal of memberships, as well as coordinate and execute fundraising initiatives and events that contribute to the financial well-being of the organization.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Technology/Software - Managing and executing communication tools, such as social media and web-based content for marketing and communication.
  • Communication Skills - Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Adaptability - Remains flexible and successful within changing environment and demands.
  • Report Development - Prepare and deliver timely reports required by the Indiana Main Street and National Main Street organizations.
  • Time Management - Effectively manage time to accomplish all in-office work, events, and 6-8 hours of outreach weekly.
  • Relationship Building/Influence - Outstanding ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Community Focused - Exhibit a desire and commitment to serve the community.
  • Self-driven, energetic, and well-organized to effectively function in an independent as well as team environment.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 20 lbs.

Salary: $44,000 up to $56,000

Benefits: Paid time off

Work Location: Greenfield, Indiana

Hours of Work: Full-time/Salaried/37.5 hours a week

  • On average 75% of time in office
  • 6-8 hours out of office during the week for networking and outreach
  • Must be flexible for varying hours to include some evenings and weekends to attend activities such as Community Engagement Opportunities, Fundraising Events, and Board Meetings.

Travel: Some travel for various conferences may be required. All expenses for trips will be paid by the organization.
