Minimum Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited university in counseling, higher education, student affairs, ethnic studies, college student development, or a closely related discipline.
- Four years of progressively responsible full-time work experience in program development, academic advising, diversity, equity, and inclusion, or student affairs. The incumbent’s experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
- Knowledge of student development and/or counseling theory and its application to academic counseling and student support services.
- Knowledge of obstacles students face in college, particularly those faced by first generation and low-income students.
- Experience working in a program or capacity that specifically supports historically underserved students.
- Experience in creating and leading workshops/trainings and communicating complex information to students, faculty, and staff.
- Experience in planning, coordinating, and executing projects, working with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience supporting underrepresented, low-income, and first-generation college students and coordinating programs to support the needs of this population.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to use conflict resolution skills and professional communication when resolving complex issues and de-escalating challenging interactions with students and campus partners.
- Knowledge of the California State University (CSU) System, San Francisco State University, and California postsecondary
- education.
- Experience using PeopleSoft, EAB, Microsoft Office Suite, and advising-related software and technology and federal grant reporting and grant submission websites and software.
- Bias toward collaboration and teamwork.
- Effective communication skills across a variety of venues.
- Customer/Client Focus with an emphasis in problem-solving and resolution.
- Personal effectiveness and credibility as demonstrated by interpersonal and professional confidence.

Environmental/Physical/Special
- Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Ability to work occasional weekends and evening hours.
- Regular attendance is required. The inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.
