Position Summary

The Environmental Services Technician performs a variety of functions involved with keeping the inside and outside of the hospital clean in accordance with training videos. This technician inspects assigned areas at the beginning of the shift, records work completed on appropriate forms, responds to housekeeping pages, and performs other tasks as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Cleaning Duties

a. Performs daily cleaning of sinks (inside and outside) and fixtures, toilets (inside and outside), mirrors, tubs/showers (inside and outside), floors, telephones, bedside tables, over-bed tables, remote controls, and water fountains; empties trash and replaces liners daily.

b. Makes daily inspection and performs cleaning as needed of all ledges lower than 6-1/2 feet in height, walls, windows, furniture and cabinets, water pipes, counter tops, cubicle curtains, and wastebaskets.

c. Cleans weekly, as scheduled, all ledges over 6-1/2 feet in height, ceiling vents, corners, doors, door frames, windows, blinds, and baseboards.

d. Disposes of needle boxes when ¾ full.

e. Terminally cleans patient room after patient discharge.

f. Weighs and loads medical waste and carts as needed.

g. Cleans and keeps in order nurses’ stations, utility rooms, waiting rooms, and public restrooms.

h. Remove trash from hospital.

i. Clean trash carts and trashcans.

j. Shampoos carpets.

k. Uses powered scrubbers and buffers to scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors.

2. Record Keeping and Miscellaneous Duties

a. Records work completed on Area Assignment Checklist.

b. Performs daily check of toilet paper, paper towels, and soap dispensers, and replenishes supplies as needed.

c. Cleans all equipment at the end of each shift.

d. Reports to supervisor when supplies are low.

e. Reports faulty equipment to supervisor.

f. Participates in departmental training as required.

g. Performs minor maintenance on equipment used.

h. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

9. Ability to use appropriate discretion in handling confidential information and materials.

Requirements:

Required Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred Education and Experience
1. Previous Environmental Service experience preferred.
