Public Prep offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, qualifications, and internal equity. The salary range for this position is $67,000-$89,898. Joining our team at Girls Prep Bronx Elementary School
Public Prep is seeking an English Language Learners (ELL) Specialist to join our team at the Girls Prep Bronx Elementary School. The English Language Learners Specialist is an integral member of the student academic support services team.
The English Language Learners Specialist works alongside the Director of Curriculum and Assessment (DCA) to provide instructional support to students identified as Limited English Proficient by the NYSITELL and NYSESLAT tests. The DCA and ELL Specialist ensure ELL students acquire English language speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through a variety of flexible models that prioritize push-in services guided by the effective use of co-teaching practices.
The English Language Learners Specialist will also work alongside the Reading Specialist to provide additional support to students requiring reading intervention.
Lastly, the English Language Learners Specialist will use his or her expertise in language acquisition to collaborate with a caseload of teachers and provide on-site professional development. The caseload will be dependent on students’ needs and be determined in partnership with the DCA and at the direction of the Principal.

Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Considering the needs of each child when designing lessons that help students develop the English language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
    • Engaging in coaching cycles and implementing research-based strategies that maximize their own performance and that of their students.
    • Reflecting on their own progress as educators.
    • Seeking out professional resources and attending professional development for serving the needs of English Language Learners to continuously improve their practice.
    • Participating in the ELL Consortium at the NYC Charter Center.
    • Providing students with frequent feedback and evaluation based on the development of individualized goals for performance that are specific, measurable, ambitious, rooted in data and time-bound.
    • Determining students’ needs by researching students’ ELL status on ATS, administering home language surveys, and conducting the NYSITELL and NYSESLAT assessments as needed.
    • Maintaining accurate records of students’ progress.
    • Collaborating with the DCA, the Reading Specialist, and other colleagues to leverage the strength of all team members.
    • Communicating with families regularly and building community with them through annual home visits and other school events.
    • Under the direction of the DCA, administer and coordinate the NYSITELL and NYSESLAT assessments
    • Provide on-site professional development to staff regarding strategies to support ELLs inclusively in the classroom.
    • Working with the DCA to ensure appropriate accommodations are given to students during assessments as needed.
    • Supporting the school as directed by the Principal.

The ideal candidate will have:

    • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
    • A Master’s Degree in TESOL, ESL or Bilingual education, preferred
    • New York State Certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), preferred
    • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated success as a full-time English Language Learners Specialist, preferred
    • Demonstrated success teaching and working in a high-performing, urban school setting preferred
    • Evidence of excellence in teaching through continuous learning and data analysis
    • Exceptional organization and planning skills
    • Superior communication skills
    • An ability to work collaboratively
    • A commitment to single-sex education
    • Fluency in Spanish preferred
