Summary
Uses the principles and theories of engineering, math and science to solve technical problems within discipline in support of engineering and engineering research. Supports engineering/projects in the performance of complex and demanding assignments requiring initiative and independent judgment. Responsible for assigned activitieswithin an engineering discipline in support of facilities, design, operation, maintenance, project and/or research-based engineering. May provide direction to technicians. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Utilizes engineering and computer technology to accomplish work. Continuously improves work processes to meet customer needs.

Education
Position typically requires a baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, or equivalent years of relevant experience in lieu of degree requirement; and at least 8 years of relevant experience preferred.
This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

Engineering Technologist 3
As the successful candidate, you will be expected to perform the following duties of this position in the areas of system protection and controls, including:

Integrate worker safety into all aspects of work planning and performance
Contribute to a high performing team environment
Communicate well, both written and verbally
Manage work load and shifting priorities that are inherently dynamicApply national and industry codes, standards, recommended practices, and guidelines
Apply core principles of power system design, system protection theory and application
Keep up todate and abide by latest applicable NERC Reliability Standards
Assist craft workers with installation, calibration, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, tuning, and repairing critical protection and control systems, with emphasis on quality assurance for the BES equipment and components
Work with relays, relay and control systems, and high-speed communication assisted relay schemes (electro-mechanical, solid state, and microprocessor-based)
Comply with configuration management requirements of various protective system components and settings
Integrate relays and communication devices with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems
Troubleshoot various control systems, logic controllers, operating systems via serial and networked communications
Use of system performance monitoring equipment (e.g., fault recorders, SERs, and power quality monitors) including initial programming and disturbance event data analysisProvide feedback to power system engineers on system performance and system health condition assessments
Ensure compliance with NERC required minimum maintenance intervals on BES elements and submit required documentation and official evidence to demonstrate compliance
Provide recommendations to the power system engineers for modifying and installing new hardware and software components and/or systems
Assist power system engineers in reviewing, developing, and maintaining detailed drawing packages and documentation as needed to modify control circuitry for various installations, upgrades, and improvements
Performs a lead role in equipment installation, testing, and acceptance on projects
Maintain configurations management of baseline relay settings and historical test data
Maintain list of known system deficiencies and works with power system engineers, maintenance, and operations personnel to establish solutions and plans for mitigation strategies
Provide technical subject matter expert (SME) reviews on internal and external design packages

Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated sound technical experience with various transmission and distribution system protection relays.
Demonstrated working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards.
Demonstrated working experience with industry codes, standards, recommended practices, and guidelines.
Demonstrated familiarity with typical protective system communication protocols.
Demonstrated working experience programming, installing, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing protective relay equipment, to include use of programming software.
Technical communication skills, both verbal and written.
Demonstrated attention to detail and familiarity with a formal configuration
Experience with AutoCAD or other drafting platform(s).
Demonstrated working experience with SCADA systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.
Demonstrated knowledge of cyber security and network communications.
Demonstrated working experience in engineering including design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical baseline maintenance.
Expert knowledge of engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods and technology aided engineering tools to ..

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $100,000.00 - $124,000.00 per year
