POSITION SUMMARY

The Engineering Technician III will work directly for the Chief Engineer. The Engineering Technician III will assist in the hands-on maintenance of building systems to ensure their safe, efficient and proper operation. This position will perform minor repairs and will help in the operation, monitoring and performance of preventative maintenance on building systems.

The Engineering Department is responsible for the operation of six buildings on campus and an art storage facility and scene production shop, both located close to campus, to include the operation and maintenance of the following systems:

  • Central Plant
  • HVAC and Humidifiers
  • Electrical Systems
  • Emergency Generator and Fuel
  • Plumbing Systems
  • Building Envelope
  • Fire and Life Safety Systems and Equipment
  • Elevator Systems
  • Loading Dock

WORK SCHEDULE:

40-hour work week to include:

  • Monday-Friday: Second shift from 3 PM-11 PM
  • Saturday-Sunday: First and second shifts from 7 AM-11 PM

After training, this position will cover second shift and weekends.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Electrical Systems

  • Must possess basic understanding of A.C. circuits and safety procedures.
  • Responsible for the proper reset of breakers and report shorts.
  • Responsible for replacing outlets, switches, and lighting ballast.

HVAC Systems

  • Must possess basic understanding of refrigeration cycle.
  • Responsible for minor preventative maintenance of an AHU.
  • Respond to HV AC calls; determine if repair is needed in a timely manner.
  • Assist with test & minor adjustment to chemical treatment levels in water system.
  • Perform a daily inspection and log of a chiller and report anything out of range.
  • Responsible for inspecting and replacing belts on an AHU.

Plumbing Systems

  • Must possess basic understanding of plumbing systems.
  • Responsible for minor repair to flush valves and faucets.
  • Responsible for inspecting and replacing wax bowel seal and remounting of toilet and urinals when needed.
  • Responsible for minor preventative maintenance of a systems pump.

Life Safety Systems

  • Must possess basic understanding of the operations of the buildings life safety systems.
  • Identify and respond to fire alarm and troubles in a timely manner.
  • Conduct a weekly inspection and log of Emergency Generator.

Miscellaneous Responsibilities

  • Repair and replace door closures & minor door hardware as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Chief Engineer.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in building maintenance industry or a trade school degree in HVAC, plumbing , or other industry-related trade
  • A valid state driver’s license
  • Universal refrigerant recovery and transfer certification (preferred)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be knowledgeable in the safe and proper use of the following tools: ladders, lifts, basic hand tools, voltmeter, manual drain auger, safety goggles, ear protection, and fire extinguisher.
  • Must be able to operate heavy equipment such as chillers, generators, switchgear, pumps, air handling units etc.
  • Must be a team player, able to work outside the core business hours when needed and willing to accept a variety of tasks associated with this position.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of operations.
  • Must be available for second shift or weekend assignment. Shift assignments are designated at the discretion of the Chief Engineer and are subject to change during tenure.
  • Willingness to be on the on-call engineering schedule. The schedule is subject to change at the needs and discretion of the property.
  • Customer Service _ Demonstrate optimum customer service delivery while performing all job functions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and stretch to fulfill cleaning and repair/maintenance tasks.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity.
  • Must be able to climb at least a 12-foot ladder and work from heights.
  • Regularly required to utilize vision abilities, including reading of printed material, drawings, and schematics and distinguishing colors

Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
