Position Summary

The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing engineering projects at a national or local level to support goals related to safety, process improvement, expansion, and new product development. This role leads a team of plant engineers and/or engineering technicians, providing guidance, and developing their capabilities.



The Engineering Manager must work cross-functionally with the local department managers to define engineering related work and to build relationships that will drive the continuous improvement of our systems and processes. Most importantly, the Engineering Manager must monitor the overall performance of the local system, provide visibility to system gaps and challenges, and be able to drive improvements with the management team through strategic actions.



Rehrig Pacific has seven locations strategically placed throughout the United States, with an Engineering Manager at other locations. Our Engineering Managers are expected to work openly as a team to share best practices and drive improvement. Although the Engineering Manager report directly to the Plant Manager, he will also work directly with Rehrig Pacific Company’s National Engineering team members (Director of Engineering and National engineering team) on specific project work and accountabilities.



Areas of Accountability

  • Manage and lead a team of Plant Engineers. Develop the capabilities of direct reports and their knowledge/experience with project management. Delegate engineering projects based on skill level, increasing in complexity as skills grow. Provide guidance to direct reports as they manage and execute the projects that fall within their scope. Oversee and ensure plant engineers have the opportunities and skills to progress through the engineering development program.
  • Oversee management of engineering project list and prioritization, adjusting priority based on needs of the plant and insight from the plant manager and the technical services manager. Make decisions on what projects align with plant priorities.
  • Plan, manage, and execute engineering projects within the plant or national projects that span multiple plants related to safety, process/capital improvement, expansion, and new product development; develop project plan for national projects and lead the execution, assisting plants with implementation.
  • Assist with new product development projects at a national and local plant level, partnering with design, tooling, and sales teams and ensuring the equipment runs smoothly and as expected upon startup.
  • Provide support for technical teams within the plant or at a national level.

  • Establish plant cleanliness and organization (5S) expectations and practices.

General Responsibilities

  • With Management Team, advance local Engineering metrics.
  • Ensure local Engineering Team is well managed and adds value to our products and processes.
  • Provide Engineering support to our Sales Team and Customers as needed.
  • Manage engineering related documentation and records.
  • Administer engineering related training to the local operations team.
  • Audit engineering related work and core processes for adherence and improvement purposes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in science or engineering preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in the engineering field (ideally in plastic injection molding).
  • Ability to manage a team of Plant engineers and engineering Technicians.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement processes from ground up.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and experience with project management tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and departments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally and nationally less than 10% of the time.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Rehrig Pacific, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $85,000-$105,000 / year.
