JOB SUMMARY

  • Responsible for all types of Public Works projects from design conception through completion of construction, in accordance with established policy and professional standards.
  • Prepares plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) for review and incorporation into projects
  • Performs and oversees technical studies
  • Performs coordination with survey, environmental, and ROW support groups
  • as well as outside utilities, residents, consultants and contractors
  • Roadway, bridge, wall, drainage, and street lighting design, inspection and construction oversight
  • Manages one large or several smaller projects at one time

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Education and Experience:

Preferred candidates will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent related field experience in Civil Engineering, and certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT)

Washington State Professional Engineer’s license is required (Level III)

This position is required to have a valid Washington State Driver License

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of county, state and federal regulations and codes pertaining to public works, engineering and construction, including WSDOT Standard Specifications, Local Agency Guidelines (LAG), & AASHTO Design Standards;
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of road construction, including earthwork, roadway, bridge, utility, drainage, erosion and sediment control
  • Ability to read, interpret and communicate engineering plans and specifications, prepared to any engineering or Architectural Standard
  • Ability to prepare bid documents and plans

Paid Leave – Sick leave, holidays, and vacation are provided in accordance with the County policy or union contracts. Vacation accrual rates increase at regular intervals based on length of service with the County.

Retirement Plan – All regular Mason County employees are enrolled in the Washington State Public Employee’s Retirement System (PERS, PSERS or LEOFF). The County and employees contribute jointly to the plans
