Become a Principal Manager of Energy Contract Origination at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you will lead a team in transacting large, complex, long-term energy commodity, asset, and related products. You will oversee all aspects of the deal-making process, including the solicitation process, due diligence, negotiations, selections, and closing.

This is a senior leadership position in SCE’s Energy Procurement & Management (EPM) organization, which develops SCE’s multi-billion-dollar energy resource portfolio, with an emphasis on non-carbon emitting resources to further SCE’s clean energy commitment to reach carbon neutrality for California by 2045. Additionally, this position will be a key contributor to EPM’s goal to be widely recognized as a high-performance organization.

  • Provide leadership and promote the Company’s safety culture to facilitate a safe work environment.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction in the assembly and management of a high-performance origination team. Act as the senior manager and interface with other SCE organizations on complex energy solicitations.
  • Assess Company requirements and market conditions, evaluate risk and identify approaches to mitigate risk, and oversee the preparation and execution of large, complex energy product solicitations. Justify and ensure alignment with the Company's objectives and regulatory requirements in leading EPM’s long-term contracting efforts.
  • Interface with and advise senior officers on energy procurement and contract origination strategies. Represent the Company to regulators, industry and the general public. Respond directly to media inquiries with subject matter expertise.
  • Develop and maintain strong, positive business relationships with energy market participants, including providers of demand-side management, distributed energy, renewables, and energy storage resources.
  • Manage resources and budget levels to meet strategic objectives and operational needs.
  • Make, recommend, and approve employment decisions. Manage employee performance for both direct and matrixed reports. Establish performance expectations and goals aligned with Company objectives, policies, and procedures. Manage, train, and develop staff by providing timely feedback, coaching and support. Demonstrate Company values through decisions and actions.
Qualifications


The essentials

  • Seven years of experience in energy markets, structured contracts, energy policy, or other commercial experience.
  • Seven or more years of experience leading a project, unit, or team.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Business, Economics, Public Policy, or Finance.
  • Experience negotiating and managing complex energy transactions.
  • Ten or more years of experience in energy markets, structured contracts, energy policy, or other commercial experience.
  • Ten or more years of experience leading a project, unit, or team.
  • Experience with establishing and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and negotiating skills to build consensus with stakeholders to develop and maintain partnerships with support organizations and senior management/executives.

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
