Job Title: Energy Management System (EMS) Technician

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Division: The After Market Service (AMS) Team

Reporting to: Senior Manager, Field Operations

The After Market Service (AMS) Group is the ultimate turnkey organization providing comprehensive solutions for those refrigeration challenges and needs you have today or might face in the future. Whether your world is a supermarket, multi-store chain with refrigerated products, a convenience store, or any of a wide variety of industrial applications. Start-to-finish development, coordination and installation of refrigeration projects and programs of any size or complexity.

What we are looking for:

Experienced technician for EMS/BAS (building automated systems) in supermarkets, convenience stores, and foodservice establishments.

What you will be responsible for in this role:

  • Perform duties as a technician for the purpose installation and maintenance of Energy Management Systems.
  • Document and install control system hardware, cabling and conduit that are necessary to facilitate refrigeration and building energy management conversions and upgrades.
  • Work with systems involving control voltage signals and high voltage power devices.
  • Read and interpret control and ladder logic type diagrams. Must know how to read blueprints and schematic diagrams.
  • Uses standard hand tools, power tools, as well as specific instruments and specialty tools such as: voltmeter, multi-meter, amprobe, manometer, RPM speed indicator.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 25% - 75% of the time.
  • Execute plans of control wiring and other electrical systems
  • Install electrical apparatus, fixtures and equipment for alarm and other systems
  • Install safety and distribution components (e.g. switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels etc.)
  • Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility of components
  • Prepare and assemble conduits and connect wiring through them
  • Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables, cleaning circuits etc.
  • Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged unit
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

What are the basic qualifications?

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Three (3) + years of experience working with electrical systems with focus in commercial construction work
  • Valid State Driver’s License

What are the preferred qualifications?

  • Construction or Trade School Degree or equivalent preferred.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and perform job safely to OSHA and Hillphoenix protocols; thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines
  • Must have trade related skills and knowledge of hand tools and power tools Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g. wire strippers, voltmeter etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints
  • Fundamental knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration EMS systems; understands Refrigeration/ HVAC control wiring.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner
  • Knowledge of EMS systems
  • Experience in industrial and/or commercial electrical systems
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Basic computer skills; ability to use laptop and smart phone
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated and a professional attitude
  • Adhere to Hillphoenix safety program, policies, and procedures

Working Environment:

  • In performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to talk and listen.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Required to stand and walk throughout the workday; climb or balance; stoop, crouch and kneel.
  • Must be able to climb on ladders, roofs and on occasion in high precarious places.
  • Must be able to work in outdoor conditions where temperatures can exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close, color and peripheral vision.
  • Ability to work with moving mechanical parts, pressurized steam equipment, open flames, heated surfaces, liquids, and risk of electrical shock in damp, humid, or freezing conditions.
  • While on jobsites, this person must adhere to OSHA safety guidelines and protocols which means this person may be required to wear personal protective devices such as but not limited to hearing and eye protection.
