Title: Electrical Systems Designer
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Location: Engineering Technology Corporation (ETC). Salt Lake City, UT
Summary: As the Electrical Systems Designer, you will assist with and document the design of electrical control systems for industrial machines and work cells. ETC is looking for someone with a strong skillset in power distribution (up to 480VAC, and other international standards), load balancing, control systems (PLC, CNC), and machine and process safety.
Responsibilities:
- Solid understanding of control system design as it pertains to machine building (power distribution, load balancing, servo motion, process and control I/O, machine safety, etc.)
- Play an active role in brainstorming solutions to meet customer specifications
- Ensure that customer specific requirements and industry machine standards are met in regards to CE, NFPA, UL, CSA, OSHA, etc.
- Create and edit electrical control system schematics
- Design the layout of electrical and control enclosures per power requirements and industry best practices
- Determine electrical enclosure sizing and cooling requirements
- Create a Bill-Of-Material (BOM) of electrical and enclosure components
- Work on time to meet schedule milestones and deliverables
- Communicate project needs, issues, and results to Project Managers
- Maintain a record of design data for each project
- Create content for operational and user manuals
- Assist the service department with applicable service requests
- Assist the sales departments with applicable quotes or sales material
- Assist with control system commissioning and troubleshooting
- Travel to customer sites as needed for installation and training(s)
Qualifications:
- 2-year degree in electronics or related field -OR- 5+ years of applicable experience
- 3+ years’ electrical design experience in industrial controls, processing, or machine building
- Experience with Solidworks Electrical preferred
- Knowledge of industry standards (CE, NFPA, UL, CSA, OSHA, etc.)
- Experience with PLC and motion controllers
- Experience with servo motors and drives
- Experience with panel layout and fabrication methods using industry best practices
- Experience with process and machine safety theory, controllers, and devices
- Must have solid problem solving and communication skills (oral and written)
- Must be able to conceptualize and talk-about potential solutions to complicated problems
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
