This role demonstrates expertise in the analysis, design, and specification of electrical systems, providing conceptual designs for a wide array of projects across CPL’s diverse practice areas.

THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER / DESIGNER AT CPL

As a member of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering team, the Electrical Engineer / Designer develops conceptual system designs, delegates project assignments, and serves as a mentor to junior team members.

Reporting to a Project Manager, you coordinate across practice teams to oversee and support design efforts, whether that means supplying power to equipment, selecting an appropriate generator for a school’s emergency power system, or laying out electrical outlets for a floor plan. WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

  • A BS in electrical engineering – with five (5) years of experience designing electrical systems – is strongly preferred or you earned an AS in a technical field of study from an accredited institution and have at least eight (8) years of related experience
  • You’re proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, ComCheck and Lithonia Visual (or similar design software programs)
  • Experience designing power distribution systems (including panelboards, switchboards, transformers, etc.) and working with interior and exterior lighting design and fire alarm, access control, public address, phone/data, and other low-voltage systems is a major plus
  • An EIT license (on track to become a professional engineer) or professional licensure is also a major plus
  • You have a demonstrated and thorough knowledge of applicable codes and standards – for example, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and National Electrical Code (NEC) regulations
  • You have excellent analytical and technical capabilities
  • You have robust interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, encompassing public speaking
  • You’re highly organized, and details are never lost on you

CORE DUTIES

  • Make project site visits to document existing systems and gather existing owner documentation
  • Develop conceptual designs; select equipment; perform calculations and energy audits; and prepare design drawings and specifications for electrical system projects
  • Complete construction phase services, including submittal reviews and punch lists
  • Interact closely with architects, interior designers, and mechanical/plumbing engineers throughout all project phases
  • Work with the designated design team to create design sketches, layouts, and plans
  • Utilize computer-assisted design software to prepare preliminary drawings
  • Perform building condition evaluations and prepare reports
  • Perform energy code compliance analyses using ComCheck software
  • Coordinate electric utility and code enforcement with agency officials
