The Economist will work as part of a research team whose goal is to complete a planning study under a grant from the US Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA). This grant will be used to conduct a state-wide skills-gap analysis to identify employer/industry needs for skills in a post-pandemic economy.

In the second phase, this grant will be used to identify anticipated changes in the economy due to the pandemic, including industry reshoring or technological innovation. The successful candidate will coordinate work with Department of Economic Development Research staff, vendors and other groups involved with the research, and assist in writing final reports and periodic reports to EDA on the progress of the grant.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
Examples of Work

Examples of work include collect and interpret economic data on workforce issues; Design and oversee collection processes for economic data; analyze the data; report and present on the conclusions;

Work with consulting firm and other outside groups to complete the study and grant goals; Develop methodology for grant study to identify skills gaps post pandemic; Manage operations of the grant, federal draws, and progress;

Draft interim and final reports; Analyze grant research results to make policy recommendations; Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, or a specialized field related to agency function, plus four years' experience in business or economic research.

PREFERRED: Master's degree highly desirable and may be substituted for two years work experience. Experience with econometric software, regression analysis, and writing and conducting surveys is preferred.

OTHER: Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge of economics and econometrics; ability to collect relevant economic data; ability to prepare reports, and present economic policy recommendations.
