The Happy Teacher Project team at the University of Oklahoma and the Early Childhood Education Institute (ECEI) at OUTulsa are looking for two Psychological Wellness Coaches for early childhood teachers in the Oklahoma City area. Our Happy Teacher Project team is implementing an innovative interdisciplinary intervention to promote Early Head Start/Head Start teachers and leaders’ wellbeing and competence.

Psychological Wellness Coaches will meet with participating teachers to assess and improve their mental health and wellness. Each semester, coaches will be assigned a number of teachers to coach and mentor for ten weeks.Coaches will meet with each participant three times during the intervention. Experience with coaching clients or patients in mental health and wellness will be helpful in this position, along with a working understanding of early childhood programs and the teachers who work in them.

We are looking for people who have scheduling flexibility (must be available during regular working hours, up to 20 hours per week), can travel to early childhood sites in Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas, and have experience in mentoring/coaching others.

Representative Duties Include:

  • Assessment. Assesses project participants using wellness inventory. Shares assessment results with project and with participants. Becomes reliable on assessment tool as required.
  • Coaching. Meets with project participants (in person, via Zoom) to create and implement a mental health/wellness mentoring plan. Follows coaching curriculum developed by researchers.
  • Record Keeping. Keeps record of information obtained during research, which may include a database of information, hard files, etc. May enter data as needed. Follows standard protocols for data entry.
  • Collaboration. Collaborates with other wellness coaches, project staff, and principal investigators. Participates in project meetings.

This parttime position would be ideal for those with scheduling flexibility. The hourly rate for this position is $30 to $36 per hour. We estimate anywhere from 30120 hours per semester will be required.


Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Human Relations, or related field required.

Experience: At least two years of experience in teaching, coaching, counseling, social work or related field required.

Skills:
  • Must have excellent communication, leadership, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Must be proficient in technology and nonclinical research skills; proficiency using MS Office products, including Outlook and Excel; proficiency using remote technology (Zoom, MS Teams).
  • Familiar with wearable devices and their operation (Fitbit).
  • Scheduling flexibility is required.
  • Must have personal transportation and be able to travel locally and statewide as needed.
Advertised Physical Requirements:
  • Standard administrative office environment and exposure, including frequent keyboarding. This position requires mobility, such as being able to move between floors or between buildings on campus, as well meeting with clients in offsite locations

  • Master's degree in fields listed above.
Supervision: This position has no supervisory duties.
