We invite you to join our SHEQ team as a Driver Trainer Specialist in the West Region. With the future growth in Arizona, this position will be based in Chandler, AZ and have responsibilities for Galt and Santa Clara California, Puyallup Washington, Bountiful, Utah and Henderson, Colorado.

The Driver Trainer Specialist is accountable for making Air Products’ driver training program the safest in the industrial gases industry. In this role, you will be a trainer and coach for the Air Products safety program and will be an active part of the activities and projects of the Driver Safety and Training team. You will be expected to be a “Safety Ambassador” at all times.

The specialist will maintain and ensure that the Training & On-Boarding Program remains evergreen and the best in the industry, conduct the pre-employment vehicle driving test for prospective drivers; and perform driver verification for qualification to handle and deliver various Air Products cryogenic liquids and gases. The specialist will evaluate driver performance (driving skills and product delivery knowledge), will coach drivers, and provide periodic retraining trips with all drivers, complete road and delivery observations (observing drivers' performance), conduct accident investigations, participate in emergency response for vehicle accidents, and assist in Hazardous Material (Dangerous Goods) training and retraining programs and distribution location operating audits. You will also conduct safety training, safety performance reviews, as well as provide safety training and awareness programs for all personnel in the fleet. The specialist is also responsible for doing delivery site inspections for current and future customers.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review and maintain up-to-date driver training on all drivers within assigned areas of responsibility in accordance with DOT and Air Products requirements.
  • Evaluate driving efficiency of drivers through driver evaluations, interviews, and training trips, and conduct in-depth driver training, safety orientation, and classroom training programs for all new drivers.
  • Conduct pre-employment road tests for perspective drivers; qualify other company personnel to perform driver road tests in his/her absence.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all federal, state, and Department of Transportation regulations, as applicable to driver and vehicle operating standards and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Assist terminal and other appropriate managers in monitoring driver safety at the facility level and conduct safety meetings as requested by terminal, district, and other appropriate managers.
  • Visit customer stations with drivers to observe operations and ensure compliance with product-handling procedures.
  • Assist locations in inspecting potential and existing customer locations to ensure that proper site access and safety requirements are communicated to the EST (Equipment Supply Team) in advance of the equipment installations.
  • Conduct accident investigations as requested to determine root cause and develop corrective action.
  • Inspect customer sites for hazardous conditions and ergonomic challenges and provide recommendations for corrective measures.
  • Assist in the training of and participation in vehicle/equipment recovery operations.
  • Assist the Group Safety Departments, Line Management, and operating managers in administering corporate and division safety policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 10-15 years' safe driving experience.
  • Experience with Driver Safety and Training is a must.
  • Commercial Driver's License with hazardous materials and tanker endorsements.
  • Good communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Broad technical knowledge of cryogenic and compressed gas products, vehicle operations, product delivery operations, federal and state regulations, and Dangerous Goods (hazardous materials) regulations, and other regulations found in the Air Products Driver Handbook.
  • Ability to travel 75%.
