Founded in 1980, Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen (a 501[c]3 non-profit organization) has provided hot and prepared nutritious meals to be hungry and homeless families, children, seniors, veterans, and disabled persons throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo counties for 41 years. The mission of Loaves & Fishes is to provide nutritious meals that are prepared, packaged, and delivered to hungry and homeless families, children, seniors, veterans, students, and disabled individuals with dignity and respect. Our vision is to create as many avenues as possible to ensure that anyone in the community in need of a meal has access to the nutritious food they require. Loaves & Fishes currently provide over 1,500,000 meals annually through two meal service programs: our Hot Meals Program and A La Carte Food Recovery Program. Both are designed to provide hungry and homeless families, children, seniors, veterans, and the disabled community with nutritious, hot, and prepared meals free of charge.

Our Hot Meals Program serves those who do not have access to refrigeration or the ability to reheat food. Our meals are served hot and individually packaged at our two meal service sites and 90 locations, including low-income senior retirement centers, community centers, shelters, transitional programs for the homeless, faith-based organizations, schools, and afterschool programs. Loaves & Fishes operates two centralized kitchens in Morgan Hill and has a fleet of trucks, including two specialized hot/cold temperature-controlled delivery trucks that deliver approximately 37,000 meals per week across the Bay Area radius from Gilroy to Palo Alto. Our A La Carte Food Recovery Program enables us to extend our reach to low and highly low-income populations struggling with food insecurity but still have access to refrigeration or reheating (e.g., in their homes, in a shelter, or low-income complex with shared kitchen facilities. We utilize all COVID-19 food safety protocols.

Job Description: Driver/Ambassador at Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchens

The Food Delivery Ambassador is accountable for picking up food from donor locations and delivering it to our neighborhoods in need while providing recovered and prepared food at our Morgan Hill Kitchen.

Summary of Responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Collect food from food donors.
• Support Logistics Team with deliveries in both Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.
• Strictly adhere to safe food handling practices; training will be provided.
• Develop and maintain good relationships with food donors and recipients.
• Keep accurate daily records of food collected and deliver logging information with company-provided technology.
• Attend staff meetings and special events.
• Safe and Timely observance of expectations when providing support to our agency partners.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Excellent driving record

• Background check clearance
• Understanding vehicle care and maintenance
• Excellent customer relations skills
• Understanding and acceptance of food recipients’ circumstances
• Comfort with a diverse population
• Ability to drive a large transit van without the need for an exclusive license
• Must be able to work weekends
• Must be able to lift 10-20 pounds repeatedly throughout the day, occasionally up to 45 lbs., on and off the truck

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
