Job description

The position of Drafter/Detailer is an integral role to AMERICAN's enhanced focus on customer service. This position will work closely with Project Coordinators and Sales Engineers to provide outstanding service to our customers. In addition, they will have a key role on "Virtual" Teams which will be created on a customer case-by-case basis to support and supplement the Project Coordinators service of the customer needs. The Project Estimator/Detailer-ADIP will provide professional shop drawings, "in-or-under" concrete lists, and piping quotations.

  • Provides the highest quality customer service, assistance, and project management possible to AMERICAN. Assists Project Coordinators, Project Assistants, Sales Engineers, and management in the resolution of all customer drawing, technical, quotation, and project issues.
  • Provides professional shop drawings and associated calculations using CAD based computer systems that meet customer requirements for accuracy and timeliness. Makes accurate quotations of AMERICAN material from engineering plans and specifications to provide District Sales offices and our customers with an accurate and complete proposal. Analyzes and interprets engineering specifications as they pertain to AMERICAN products. Maintains knowledge and understanding of AMERICAN product line.
  • Provides shop drawings, revisions, quotations, quotation supplements, in & under lists, submittals, lay schedules, customer lists, checked drawings and other drafting work to the production standards of the department.
  • Provides value engineering in the best interest of both AMERICAN and the customer.
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly. Knows safety rules that apply to the safety of others and to personal safety. Reports malfunction of equipment to proper authority. Performs other work as instructed by supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have substantial prior work experience in drafting or an Associate Degree in drafting from an accredited school. (Samples of work required and skills must be demonstrated.)
  • Must demonstrate the ability to accurately work basic math, geometry and trigonometry problems.
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must exhibit the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job duties.
  • Must exhibit a high degree of professional flexibility, especially in work hours, as well as adaptability to the evolving Customer Service function and rush demands of customers.
  • Must demonstrate ability to be resourceful in answering customer needs with AMERICAN products and applications.
  • Must be willing to travel, on a limited basis, for customer relationship building.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous drafting experience in the mechanical field, such as piping, equipment, and pressure vessels.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering concepts.
  • Prior experience or training with computer software such as CAD.
  • Prior experience or training in customer service and marketing.
  • Associate Degree or college courses completed in engineering, math, science, and marketing.
  • Knowledge of AMERICAN products and their application.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS

  • Sitting for long periods of time while performing desk activities such as computer work, drawing, etc.
  • Standing and walking on various surfaces required when in the plant.
  • Climbing stairs/ladder occasionally required when in the plant. Balancing required on ladder.
  • Stooping and kneeling to obtain files, work in the plant, etc. File drawers are approximately 35" high and 30" deep.
  • Overhead reach to 93" (with step stool) and bended reach to floor to obtain files required.
  • Forward reaching for computer work, drawings, etc.
  • Handling for working with files, drawings, etc.
  • Use of fingers for computer entry, keyboarding, drawing, etc.
  • Feeling for smoothness, textures, machine parts in plant.
  • Talking to co-workers, vendors, etc. in person, via telephone, etc.
  • Vision for computer work, drawing, accuracy, etc.
  • Hearing for co-worker and telephone, etc.
  • Lifting and carrying drawings up to 20# maximum, usually less than 5#.
  • Pushing and pulling file drawers with up to 20# force maximum.
