Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Operates tractor equipped with concave blade attached across front to gouge out, level, and distribute earth and to push trees and rocks from land preparatory to constructing roads/building platforms and installing underground utilities
- Fastens attachments to tractor with clevis or wedge-pin hitches.
- Drives bulldozer in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower terrain to specified grade following markings on grade stakes, hand signals, or GPS devices.
- Safe and efficient operation of dozer around the jobsite
- Handling and/or moving material
- Maintain daily logs of equipment usage, maintenance, etc.
- Daily maintenance of equipment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Functions
Technical Knowledge:
- Effective communication skills
- Identify, report and correct hazards
- Ability to use the controls to effectively operate the tractor/dozer
- Understands and watches machine control, gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure the machine is working properly.
- Grading
- Safety practices and proper PPE
- Understands survey markers and stakes
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for long periods; handle and manipulate objects on a repetitive basis. Ability to see well and distinguish between back up alarms, voices and other normal sounds consistent with construction job sites.
Environmental Adaptability:
Work inside and outside in all weather conditions, and various locations and times of day. Hard hat, hearing and eye protection, Hi-visibility clothing required.
Training and Experience:
- 3 years of heavy civil construction equipment operation experience (preferred)
- Competent Person
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Punctual
- Ability to work independently and self-motivated
- Team player, able to get along with a diverse group of people working towards a common goal
