Summary

Document Analyst (DA) will assist forensic examiners (FEs) in shredded document reconstruction, questioned document examinations, and footwear/tire examinations while working in a laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Sort through large volumes of shredded documents.
  • Mount paper fragments on adhesive sheets.
  • Scan these sheets into image software.
  • Correct the image quality of the scans using the image software.
  • Perform digital reconstructions of the shredded documents using the software.
  • Write examinations.
  • Perform database searches.
  • Maintain the chain of custody.
  • Inventory evidence.
  • Return evidence to contributing agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a four (4) - year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s (or higher) degree in biological or physical sciences, graphic arts, police science, criminology, or forensic science-related area, or a bachelor's (or higher) degree from an accredited college or university that included at least twenty – four (24) hours in the above areas. OR
  • A combination of education and experience with course work equivalent to one of the course majors shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation.
  • Top Secret clearance required.
  • The position requires a COVID vaccination or an approved accommodation/exemption for a disability/medical condition or religious belief.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Prior professional work using digital image software such as Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Photo Elements.
  • Experience sorting large volumes of varied material is beneficial.
  • Ability to sort and reconstruct jigsaw puzzles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with personnel at all levels.
  • Possess basic arithmetic and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to interact with other personnel, directly or indirectly, to obtain, convey, and exchange information.
  • Ability to enter, search, retrieve, and assemble data using various applications and software products.
  • Possess proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Possess proficiency in using the Internet.
