About the Position
The Director, Technology (Director) advances the missions of NILC and IJF by acting as a subject matter expert and leader in technology operations including technology, data, and information security. Working closely with the Executive Vice President, Operations, the Director plays a key role in building and maintaining strong strategic and operational systems related to technology to build, sustain, and advance the organization in accordance with the strategic framework and NILC values. The Director oversees and executes day-to-day technology operations including technology enablement, defining technology architecture and infrastructure, ensuring compliance, and managing vendor relationships. The Director will act both as a strategic leader and hands-on executor in areas ranging from systems administration to employee IT to procurement. Additionally, the Director collaborates with leaders across the organization to enhance and better integrate the right technology consistently across the organization.
This role is not a member of the Bargaining Unit.
The Director, Technology will be responsible for providing leadership and driving success in the following key areas:

Specific Position Responsibilities
  • Forge collaborative relationships across functional areas to evaluate, create and implement a “best in class” technology vision and strategy that enables NILC and IJF to achieve its Strategic Plan and mission.
  • Lead and manage day-to-day technology processes and work across the organization.
  • Define organizational needs, including security and compliance requirements, system infrastructure, and disaster recovery, and timelines for future system enhancements and implementation to support organizational growth across functional areas.
  • Develop and maintain procedures, standards, and policies to protect the privacy and integrity of data including compliance and training of regulations and security policies; develop contingency plans and manage security breaches.
  • Manage and oversee integration of software, tools, and applications across functional areas and implementation of improvements to the existing infrastructure.
  • Execute day-to-day IT infrastructure, strategy, structure, staffing, vendor management, and budgeting.
  • Develop and implement technology trainings and provide technical consulting across functional areas.
  • Select and actively manage vendors and platforms for internal and external meetings, events and trainings hosted by NILC, determining and leading the identification and coordination of internal resource needs and best in class execution and presentation.
  • Identify opportunities and recommend solutions for maximizing technology efficacy, efficiency, and innovation.
  • Communicate technology recommendations, risks, reports, and plans to Executive and Senior Leadership teams, staff, and other audiences as needed.
  • May be a part of or lead cross functional/departmental projects using the MOCHA framework/methodology

  • Manages outside consultants, third party administrators, and vendors.

  • Knowledge of the latest strategies to protect against cyber threats, including multifactor authentication, DNS filters, protection against phishing and ransomware threats.
  • Demonstrated success in vendor management skills, including experience in evaluation, negotiation, selection, and project management of vendors.
  • Experience in structuring data systems to comply with security standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, etc. recognizes each team member's unique background and perspective to achieve team goals in a positive and motivating working environment.

Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related field required.
  • At least 10 years of experience in Information Systems, IT, or IT service delivery, including at least 4 years of supervisory and management experience of an IT service delivery team.
  • Experience managing technology functions in a non-profit environment.
  • Experience developing technology strategies to make an organization more effective and more efficient.
  • Experience developing and implementing new technologies to support business processes, whether created in-house or procured off-the-shelf.
  • Experience managing and administering computer networks, firewalls, backups, security systems, desktops, and other IT solutions in place including computer hardware, systems software, application software, and all configurations.
  • Experience leading software implementations, integrations, or upgrades.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage IT operations in the cloud, management of hosting arrangements and safely integrating systems into the infrastructure without compromising security.
  • Experience building out Microsoft Office Suite and related products for an organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or MBA in IT, information systems, computer science, or other related field a plus.
  • Nonprofit or social justice organization experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in non-English languages spoken by Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, African, Caribbean, and Arab communities preferred. Fluency in more than one language is desirable.

Work Environment
Location & Travel:
  • All staff are currently working remotely, and all travel is limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Post pandemic, up to 10-20% of overnight interstate travel may be required; travel is typically quarterly to the NILC Washington, DC office or another location within the US for 3-5 nights.
Compensation:
  • NILC’s compensation philosophy is to pay competitively in the nonprofit sector and ensure equity across the organization. The salary range for this role is $128,000 - $161,000 per year. Compensation for the role will depend on several factors including qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
  • NILC provides an incredible benefit package that includes employer-paid healthcare coverage (100% for employees and 75% for dependents), employer-supported dental and vision coverage, a 403(b)-retirement plan including an automatic contribution from NILC, paid parental leave, monthly cell phone and wellness stipends, pre-tax accounts for transit, health, and childcare benefits (FSA), and employer-paid short- and long-term disability and life insurance. NILC also provides a generous paid-time-off policy, 15 holidays and 22 days of paid time off annually (increased to 32 after 2 years of employment).
