RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Summer Schools and Camps is a twelve-month staff position. The director is responsible for the Culver Summer Schools and Camps program and supervises a full-time staff of six. The Summer Camp program consists of: • A 3-4 day Junior Woodcraft Camp for boys and girls ages 7-9 • Woodcraft Camp: A six-week camp for boys and girls ages 9-14. • Upper School: A six-week camp for boys in girls ages 14-17.

With the aid of the summer staff, the director is responsible for recruiting and admitting approximately 1500 campers and hiring approximately 450 summer staff each year. The successful candidate will possess extraordinary communication and coordinating abilities as camp planning requires campus-wide cooperation. The director should be able to foster relationships with campers, staff members, families, and a global alumni base of over 11,000 individuals. Essential functions of this position include the ability to manage and lead the year-round staff, attract, train, support, supervise, and inspire summer counselors as well as the year-round staff, prescribe and supervise meaningful programs of instruction and activities, recruit the campers in appropriate configurations, efficiently onboard the campers, as well as house, clothe, feed and care for the campers while they are at Culver.

REQUIREMENTS: • Education: Master's degree and seven to ten years of experience in positions requiring exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. • Communications: This position requires writing and editing effectively and communicating the written and spoken word with tact, diplomacy, and authority when necessary.

  • Organizational skills: This position requires discipline, an ability to meet deadlines, and the ability to work under the pressure of many priorities. Additionally, must be able to multitask between various job responsibilities. • Interpersonal skills: This position requires the ability to meet people with ease and the ability to work effectively within every level of the organization. • This position entails having access to highly confidential information.
Must be discreet and able to maintain confidentiality. • Computer skills: This position requires strong proficiency with database input and custom report generation; competency with Excel, Word, and related software. This position requires excellent keyboarding and data entry skills. • The person in this position must deeply understand Culver's distinctive mission and be committed to preserving it, especially as it applies to the summer program.
