SUMMARY OF POSITION :
Director of Security will lead and manage all aspects of security for the Museum and proprietary storage facility. This is a new role with the mandate to ensure best practices in security practices, safety, and management. The ideal candidate will be able to ensure the safety of all museum staff, assets, and facilities while also creating an environment that is respectful and welcoming to visitors. They will lead and develop the security management team and manage the staffing for a 24/7 operation with both museum staff and contract security guards to provide 24/7 coverage in conjunction with the department’s technology systems. The Director of Security will be a key player in implementing the museum’s emergency action plan and leading the onsite response to any critical situations, including protests, weather events, and special events.

SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
    • 10+ years of security experience with 5+ years in a leadership position.
    • Experience leading change, developing processes, implementing procedures, and working collaboratively across departments to achieve desired outcomes.
    • A progressive understanding of the modern museum experience and how to maintain security operations within an environment that prioritizes visitor satisfaction.
    • Experience using data and metrics to deliver insights and drive action.
    • Project management, planning, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Experience overseeing complex electronic security systems.
    • Experience with budgeting and purchasing related to security.
    • Working knowledge of laws and regulations related to security operations in public facilities in New York City and State.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Lead, manage and mentor the security management team and staff.
    • Develop and implement a best practice in the security team structure, recruitment, and training of the team.
    • Develop a strategic vision for the department in order to ensure that the museum remains current with industry standards and technological advances.
    • Oversee safety protocols and procedures for security and safety at the museum and warehouse.
    • Provide a high level of integrated threat analysis and advise senior leadership on best practices.
    • Maintain relationship with third-party security staffing provider, ensuring adequate coverage for all regular hours and after-hours events and programs.
    • Lead the museum’s Fire, Life, Safety preparedness, and response.
    • Oversee the maintenance of all security technology systems, including access control, cameras, and radios, as well as all security software systems.
    • Develop and manage the annual security budget, including vendor services, supplies, equipment, and uniforms.
    • Provide leadership and training to museum staff in security and safety.
    • Advise internal teams regarding exhibition-specific security and safety concerns, as well as special staffing needs created by exhibition-related circumstances.
    • Coordinate with outside government agencies and law enforcement to ensure appropriate support and response.
    • Liaise with neighboring museums to gain knowledge and develop a network of and mutual support.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of emergency preparedness and response programs.
    • Direct training for museum staff periodically conducting annual drills in compliance with applicable laws.
WORK DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENT : :
    • Ability to travel within the metropolitan area as required to perform the above duties at any of the Guggenheim’s owned or leased properties upon request.
    • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on occasion.

EDUCATION :: College degree is preferred. High school degree or GED is required.

SALARY RANGE: : :$115,000 – 125,000 annually :
