As Director of Nursing/Wellness Director, you not only make a difference in the lives of our elderly residents and their families, but the employees who you direct and develop make a difference also. If you are a vibrant leader, then we’d love to hear from you about directing and managing our Resident Care Department by ensuring proper staffing, overseeing medical needs and care of our senior residents in both assisted living and memory care and complying with regulatory regulations.:

Every day is different! But, the essential responsibilities for our Director of Nursing/ Wellness Director are:

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, appraise and discipline Assisted Living resident care staff. Schedule, facilitate and attend resident care appointments such as level of care. Maintain resident confidentiality and train staff on the importance confidentiality. Serve as a role model for teamwork and quality care.
  • Oversee and, as needed, dispense prescribed medications to residents according to doctors’ written orders. Document properly. Monitor medication administration compliance.
  • Perform resident assessments and provide expertise regarding level of care.
  • Provide, as needed, direct personal assistance and supervision needed by assisted living and memory care residents
  • Respond immediately in case of an accident or incident involving a resident. Document incident.
  • Initiate, update and verify resident care plans upon admission. Provide ongoing resident assessments and document condition changes. Participate in monthly care plan meetings. Function as liaison between resident, family and physician.
  • Complete, investigate and follow-up on resident Incident/Accident Reports. Report the incident to appropriate state agency if applicable and the Home Office.
  • Facilitate and participate in and required in-services. Complete competency and employment evaluations.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement programs. Monitor resident charts, employee records, and TB and Hepatitis screening forms relative to compliance with licensure regulations.
  • Facilitate resident admissions, discharges and transfers.
  • Conduct community tours, back-up marketing duties and handle resident or family concerns in the absence of the Director of Resident Relations and/or the Executive Director as well as Manager on Duty on a regular rotation.
  • Attend training as required as well as complete all Relias training as scheduled.
  • Participate in marketing and community education.:

Our Director of Nursing/Wellness Director must have a current LPN license and preferably a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in a healthcare environment with it being a plus in a long-term care setting as an LPN. We know this brings a foundation of many skills and abilities, but we want to make sure that you know what our expectations are for this position so that you are able to succeed. Do we expect everyone who applies to know or have all of these skills and abilities from the get-go? No, except for the actual nursing and resident care abilities, but we will train you during your first few months to ensure that you do.:

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing resident and personal services such as conducting needs assessments and meeting quality standards of service.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and procedures for diagnosis and treatment of physical and mental issues with residents.
  • Knowledge of nursing care principles including symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions and preventative health care measures.
  • Strong knowledge of the 5 rights of medication administration--The Right: Drug, Dose, Route, Patient, Time.
  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong with a resident.
  • Ability to listen to and comprehend information and ideas presented from residents, family members, co-workers, visitors and medical professionals.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and information to residents, family members, co-workers, visitors and medical professionals.
  • Ability to control expenses within approved budget and knowledge of spenddown budgets.:
