The Director of Nursing Develops, plans, coordinates, organizes, directs, and evaluates the nursing activities for residents in accordance with scope of practice, doctors’ orders, care plans, established company policies and procedures, standards, and guidelines; current federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the Nursing department and campus; and as directed by the supervisor by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise, coordinate, direct, and monitor the staffing of the Nursing department with input from the Executive Director.
  • Maintain, update, and access current resource base, keeping apprised of regulations, trends, and developments in nursing related areas.
  • Assist with the resident admission process.
  • Assist residents to attain and maintain their highest functional status and enhance their quality of life.
  • Monitor, assess, and address resident changes in physical, emotional or cognitive condition or status, likes/dislikes, weight loss, pressure sores, pain, etc.
  • Communicate with residents and staff regarding any changes, problems, concerns, and/or special needs residents may have.
  • Monitor and maintain the campus, nursing work areas (medication room, nurses’ station, etc.), resident care areas (resident rooms), and nursing practices care to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing quality assurance program for the campus and nursing department.
  • Administer competencies to ensure staff are competent to perform assigned duties.
  • Investigate and resolve nursing related quality and service complaints/concerns.
  • Develop, maintain, review, update, and monitor nursing related policies and procedures, forms, and job descriptions to ensure the delivery of care and services are implemented and performed in a timely and quality manner in accordance with current standards, guidelines, and regulations while meeting the company needs.
  • Provide assistance, consultation, and direction in preparation for and during the state and federal survey process and assist with developing Plan of Correction as needed.
  • Prepare and plan and administer the nursing budget for equipment, supplies, labor, capital expenditures/requests, and other nursing areas for review and approval of the Administrator/Manager.
  • Approves invoices and payroll to ensure accurate expenditures.
  • Participate and as appointed direct/coordinate in regularly scheduled meetings such as QA, department supervisor, staff, TSP/care plan meetings, discharge planning, Safety Committee, Eden, and similar committee meetings.
  • Work with campus pharmacist and Medical Director to ensure quality services are delivered in accordance with current federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the nursing department and campus.:
Education Experience:
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing approved by the appropriate state.
  • Possess a valid RN license from the appropriate state. This shall include maintaining required CEU’s.
  • Experience in Long Term or Acute Care and in management preferred, but not required.
  • Must be willing and able to become CPR certified.
