Montessori School of Fort Myers & Farwell Fruit Farm Director of Maintenance

The owner of Montessori School of Fort Myers and Farwell Fruit Farm is looking for a part time (10-30 hours per week) Director of Maintenance to begin immediately.

Duties & Activities:

  • You will splitting your time between two properties:
  • Montessori School of Fort Myers
  • 2151 Crystal Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33907
  • A 100 student 5,000 ft2 preschool and private elementary school for children 0-6 years old. 25 staff, six classrooms, has its own tool shed / work shop that is well stocked with tools. You must be able to pass an FDLE Level 2 background check to work around our students.
  • Farwell Fruit Farm
  • Near Daniels Parkway and Palomino, 16 minute drive east of the school.
  • A 5 acre rare fruit collection and home of the Farwell family where we have a licensed plants nursery that sells rare fruit trees, seeds, and honey. The farm has a barn-like building with farm equipment, a house, and a garage with a very equipped workshop. We have one employee here and the seed business is growing quickly. We can show you how to operate the tractor and some of the light-duty heavy equipment.
  • Identify current and future maintenance requirements by coordinating with administrators, tradesmen, technicians, vendors, and other persons in a position to understand maintenance requirements.
  • Handle all maintenance issues at the two properties. We need someone who is a jack of all trades and can fix and build just about anything. The school has a regular maintenance schedule with annual, quarterly, and monthly tasks to be performed. In addition to regular scheduled maintenance, you will be in charge of fixing anything that comes up.
  • Possible school job examples are: Fixing a surveillance camera went out, painting the trim board in a bathroom, patching a hole in the sheet rock. Fixing a minor leak in an HVAC duct, refinishing the wood on the playground, blowing leaves off the roof monthly, fixing a a strange smell coming from the washing machine, etc.
  • Possible farm job examples: Fixing the gutter system on the house, carpentry work around the house, fixing irrigation equipment, planting trees for the orchard, etc.
  • We have an IT tech company that helps us with computer issues so no IT knowledge is needed other than any build out that might be needed such as running new Cat6 cables, fixing the IT cabinet, etc.
  • We have several trailers that can be used to move equipment around as needed so if you have a trailer hitch on your vehicle that is a major plus. We will get you a Home Depot and Lowe’s card for spending.
  • We need someone who is polite around the families and staff at the school since we have young children.

Position Requirements:

Non-negotiable:

  • Pass an FDLE Level 2 background check for the school.
  • Positive attitude, polite, and knowledgeable about maintenance and carpentry.
  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights

Preferred:

  • At least five years experience working in carpentry, a construction trade, as a handyman, property maintenance person, etc.
  • You love interacting with children, especially 0-6 year olds.
  • You love interacting with adults, even when they are sometimes stressed out teachers or grumpy parents.
  • No college degree required, if you can prove you can handle the job that is what we are looking for.
