Southern Teachers is assisting Whitefield Academy as it seeks a director to oversee the school’s financial activities—preparing reports and summaries, forecasting future needs, and supervising the accounting department, budget preparation, audit functions, and the campus store. The Director is responsible for operational and personnel matters and for establishing financial and administrative objectives, programs, and practices consistent with Board of Trustees policies and legal guidance. As enrollment continues to grow, the Director will be instrumental in anticipating needs and aligning resources to the strategic plan, to include faculty/staff development, construction and renovation projects, management of financing and investments, and school-level initiatives.

The Director of Finance collaborates with the head of school in planning projects and initiatives and advises the Board finance committee regarding the school’s financial condition, budget, investments, financing of major construction projects, and debt. He or she works closely with the Director of Development to support fundraising initiatives; ensures risk management coverage; reviews annual insurance renewals, negotiates all significant contracts (janitorial and food services, software licenses, consultants, construction, HVAC maintenance), and coordinates with the director of operations to ensure effective safety measures. The Director administers the financial aid program and oversees billing and tuition collection.

Candidates must hold degrees in accounting, business administration, or finance and have at least seven years’ experience in financial and business management, preferably at independent schools. They must be proven leaders who can inspire teamwork, set strategic goals, implement action plans, and manage multiple areas of operation. The Director should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a high level of energy, initiative, enthusiasm, and collaboration. In addition, he or she must commit to living under the lordship of Christ; being a Christian role model in speech, actions, and attitudes that contribute to the school’s spiritual atmosphere; affirming the school’s Statement of Faith; exhibiting Whitefield’s core value for students to experience diversity that reflects the body of Christ; and supporting the school’s diversity vision that aims at unity in Christ. The Director, like all the school’s leaders, must demonstrate consistent spiritual activities such as worship at a local church, fellowship with the body of Christ, personal devotional time with the Lord, individual study of scripture, and evidence of the fruit of the Spirit in nurturing relationships with staff, students, families, and the community at large.
