Way to Win is looking for a Director of External Communications and Media Relations who has top-notch communication, PR, writing skills and guiding core strategic communications and media relations priorities. Working closely with the executive team, this individual will report directly to the Vice President, Chief of External Relations and Communications.

• 
  External communications and media relations project planning, management and execution; Determine the length and complexity of tasks and projects.
• Create communications (press releases, pitches, and external communications, etc) and own processes. Assign priorities and time parameters.
• Create and continuously develop external communications calendar, and directing media relations strategy
• Craft and implement internal communications plans that outline timelines, dependencies, and stakeholder awareness mapping (who needs to know what and when)
• Direct, coach and empower Senior Leadership to be strong communicators and champions of Way to Win; including determining what needs to be communicated externally, what mode to use, and developing talking points
• Develop and carry out strategic communications plans, including aligning goals, across our organization.
• Direct media relations, oversee coordination of media interviews, news conferences, and other public relations events.
• Ensure external communications channels and media relations pieces are a reliable source of information, conducting routine audits and updating with relevant and key information.
• Ensure all external communications are held to the brand standard to ensure that the message is received, factoring in design, writing, and attention to detail.
• Serve as a trusted advisor and communications culture leader who promotes a culture that embodies the values and mission of Way to Win.
• Direct external communications by Identifying, flagging and prioritizing issues that have organization-wide implications.
  
  Qualifications
• 10+ years of experience working in nonprofit external communications and/or media relationships in advocacy, organizing and social justice organizations and five years of experience overseeing external communications.
• A track record of culture leadership in an organization and partnership with leaders who have trusted you for strategic counsel and coaching
• Skill in developing and carrying out strategic communications plans, including aligning goals with direct experience working for a political, donor or advocacy organization
• Collaborative, hands-on style, with an eye toward action and improvement.
• Ability to learn, summarize, and share information across a variety of departments.
• Thorough knowledge and experience in the development of external communication and media relations strategies and the evaluation techniques and systems
• Ability to balance competing priorities in a rapidly changing environment.
