The Development Director works in collaboration with the Chief Philanthropy Officer in the creation, execution and attainment of the fund development plan for LOGAN Community Resources, Inc. They are responsible for managing and coordinating fundraising for organizational priorities and special events, with dedicated focus on annual philanthropic support and relationships with corporate partners. The Development Director will identify, organize, and manage fundraising activities with a focus on new opportunities to obtain ongoing and increased support from corporations, public and private organizations, faith communities, and individuals. They will deliver critical fundraising results through the highest-impact engagements with our potential donor base.

The Development Director must be highly successful in engaging and closing through authentic one-on-one conversations and have expertise in evaluating and implementing efficient and sustainable fundraising (or sales) strategies.

Requirements:

Essential Functions

Sales Team Member

  • Work within the relationship-based fundraising model (sales) concept of impact driving income.
  • Manage fundraising priorities within the relationship-based fundraising model.
  • Actively participate in regular Sales Team Meetings (STM), conduct call plans, complete call memos, etc.
  • Increase annual giving through appeals & campaigns, establish monthly giving program and increase LOGAN’s donor retention.
  • Establish tools for measuring progress and results that are effective and work well within the styles of the overall sales team.
  • Regularly review prospect engagement tools and support information to ensure they are updated and accurately reflect the organization’s funding model of Today, Tomorrow, Forever.
  • Work with the CPO to plan and organize stewardship activities to communicate impact to donors.
  • Strategize donor relationships and activities as a member of the Sales Team.
  • Participate in team selling for funding opportunities.
  • Participate in – and seek out – opportunities to learn about the projects and constituents served by LOGAN
  • Build relationships with organizational leadership and learn about LOGAN programs and client services.
  • Collaborate with LOGAN staff to understand competitive positioning, program differentiation and value propositions; be present in all programs and facilities.
  • Utilize Bloomerang & DonorSearch or other donor software to monitor and assist with updating fund development activities and ensure gifts are accurately processed through internal systems and the appropriate follow up has occurred.

Owner of a “Sales” Portfolio

  • Identify and prioritize mid to major level prospects to cultivate and move “up, down or off”
  • Own relationship management and strategy for all prospects in portfolio including prospect research and strategy; prospect predisposition planning; prospect visit strategy and planning, including engaging other members of the team as needed
  • Commit to securing visits with donors and prospects within portfolio; share LOGAN stories; present and ask for investment opportunities; communicate impact.
  • Manage prospect follow-up activities, coordinating with the team as needed.
  • Meet or exceed annual fundraising goal.

Special Event Fundraising

  • Work closely with the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) to cultivate new and existing relationships to secure financial sponsorships and in-kind support that maximize each event’s revenue potential.
  • Manage a portfolio of Corporate Partners while generating new prospects; design proposals/create custom plans for each Corporate Partner.
  • Identify and qualify potential general event sponsors and coordinate donor/sponsorship package opportunities with the Marketing Team.
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing Team to develop special events budgets and embrace accountability toward achieving event budgets.
  • Work in conjunction with the Marketing Team to plan Stewardship Events, Impact in Motion Tours and other engaging donor opportunities.

General Responsibilities

  • Facilitates professional growth by keeping current on new philosophy, research, technology, strategies, etc.
  • Serves on internal and external committees as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management or related area.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in in sales, business and/or fund development; a demonstrated track record of success and performance in sales and/or fund development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possess a genuine interest, enthusiasm and affinity for fundraising.
  • Must be able to communicate well with donors.
  • Ability to articulate the stories of LOGAN.
  • Ability to write grants, proposals and LOIs.
  • Maximize donor relationships to present and ask for investment opportunities.
  • Work both independently and in collaborative, team-based fund development approach. Must be able to represent LOGAN favorably in public settings.
  • Possess an understanding or ability to learn Bloomerang, DonorSearch and other fund development technology systems.
  • Must have a broad, overall view of the LOGAN’s Mission, Vision and Values and be able to translate those guiding principles into the formation of relationships and sound business acumen.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills necessary to build relationships with donors, volunteers and staff.
  • Confidence and skills to attain funding commitments from donors.
  • Creative thinker who demonstrates initiative and acts with enthusiasm and positivity.
  • Understands ethical fundraising behavior and business practices.
  • Works effectively and respectfully with others to set goals, resolve problems and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Provides high level of integrity and dependability with strong sense of urgency; results-oriented; embraces accountability.
