The Archives and Information Studies (AIS) Program in the College of Information and Mathematical Sciences at Clayton State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track graduate faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with administrative duties. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities


The individual will teach AIS courses in both synchronous and asynchronous online environments, with the possibility of summer courses. Course topics will include archives, records management, and archival technology. Strengths in records management; reference, access, and outreach, and in digital preservation and curation are desirable. In addition, the individual will be expected to be active in research and scholarly activity as appropriate for the discipline, and to engage in service to the university. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for administering the AIS programs including recruitment, curriculum development, supervising staff and faculty, and budget oversight. The position is based in Morrow, Georgia, fifteen miles southeast of Atlanta.

Required Qualifications

  • One or more of the following credentials: PhD or Master of Archival Studies, PhD, or Master of Library Science with archival concentration, PhD, or MS in Library and Information Science with archival concentration, or PhD, Master’s degree in a subject area related to archival work with certification by the Academy of Certified Archives or the Institute for Certified Records Managers, and experience/training in digital archives.
  • Candidates having an advanced degree in one of the above fields and significant recognition for substantive and distinctive contributions to the field of archival studies or digital curation may also be considered.
  • Potential for contributions in research and scholarly activity.
  • Candidate must be eligible to hold graduate faculty status at Clayton State University.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists or the Institute for Certified Records Managers preferred.
  • Doctorate in archival studies, library and information science, information technology, or another closely related field.
  • A record of or potential for distinguished teaching directly related to archival studies.
  • The ability to engage students in online courses.
  • Three or more years’ experience as a professional archivist or records manager.
  • Experience using software tools to support digital curation and preservation.
  • Evidence of current involvement in scholarly research.
  • Evidence of staff supervision
  • Budget management experience
