The Director of Affordability is responsible for developing and driving medical cost improvement strategies for commercial business with a focus on consumer experience. This includes analyzing and interpreting medical cost data, identifying trend drivers and variation opportunities, developing strategies across cross functional teams, and leading the execution of those strategies. The Director of Affordability should be self-directed, have strong analytic and organizational/project management skills, as well as an ability to influence and leverage cross functional teams to drive execution.

If you are located in the Englewood, CO area, you will have the flexibility to work remotely* twice a week as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Research and analyze market medical cost data using analytical data sources to identify variations, trends, and total cost of care opportunities.
  • Develop value-based care affordability strategies inclusive of analyzing medical cost data, identifying value-based reimbursement models, and outlining the framework and go to market plan (data requirements, measurements / KPI’s, provider contracts, performance management, resources)
  • Draft business case with resource requirements, multi-year cost / benefit analysis, and ROI
  • Partner with organizational teams (i.e. Healthcare Economics, Clinical, Network, Finance, etc.) to execute and scale on value based reimbursement models
  • Develop, prioritize, and execute affordability initiatives, owning end to end process
  • Adopt national affordability programs in market, acting as a liaison to communicate market level initiative impact and remove barriers to adoption.
  • Direct and influence cross-functional teams to adopt new ideas, solutions, and approaches
  • Translate complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences
  • Identify and resolve technical, operational, and organizational problems outside own team
  • Predict emerging customer needs and develop innovative solutions to meet them
  • Participate in the development of business strategy

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience within a managed care organization, health insurer, or similar experience in a matrixed environment
  • 3+ years of experience leading complex projects across cross functional teams
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership
  • Understanding of different provider reimbursement methodologies such as fee for service, DRG, per diem, case rate
  • Reside within a commutable distance to the Englewood, CO office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-graduate degree
  • 3+ years of experience in creating and/or performance managing value-based reimbursement models

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $113,500 to $218,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
