The Director of Advertising is responsible for optimizing the advertising spend across all channels delivering on KPI’s and continuously increasing effectiveness and efficiency across the entire customer lifecycle. These channels include, but aren’t limited to, print (catalog, postcard, letter), digital (search, social, display), and mass (video, audio, OOH). Key business metrics include CPA, CPM, ROAS, reach, etc. This leader will determine the optimal spend mix across lifecycle (acquisition, engagement, and re-activation), channels, and messages.

The role will be based out of our Eden Prairie, MN head office within our hybrid environment that has team members come into the office once or twice a week.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute direct marketing strategies based on analysis performed to help generate new customers and to maximize engagement with existing customers
  • Challenge the status quo with new thinking including exploring various formats and channels to increase response and/or decrease costs and leading multiple tests to be able to rollout full scale
  • Develop an effective team environment that drives employee engagement and performance.
  • Partner with leaders from the merchandising, creative, digital marketing, ecommerce, and credit departments to deliver compelling offers and experiences across channels
  • Manage analytical efforts to support decision-making that maximizes short-term profit and long-term value to the company
  • Continuously monitor marketing results/reporting to constantly optimize media plans
  • Present analyses and/or recommendations to brand and Executive leadership with a quantitative bias for action (i.e., data driven decision making)
  • Manage a team of 5 direct reports and be accountable for leading the strategy and execution of an annual budget in excess of $45MM.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:


  • 10+ years of work experience in direct-to-consumer marketing, digital and/or print marketing, and program management.
  • 3 years’ experience managing people and teams
  • Experience with A/B and MVT testing best practices
  • Proven experience with optimizing and managing interactive media strategies and tactics (e.g. Display, Search, Affiliate, Social)
  • Proven ability to analyze, organize and integrate large amounts of complex information and synthesize into clear, concise plans/presentations
  • Solid knowledge of customer facing ecommerce website technologies and concepts
  • Expertise using analysis to drive marketing decisions
  • Experience planning and executing direct mail campaigns including the production process
  • Strong PC skills and proficiency with a variety of software applications including Excel, Power Point and Word

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated success managing campaign strategies in a direct marketing space including eCommerce and digital marketing; credit card / financial services marketing
  • Strong familiarity and experience with Demand Side Platforms
  • Agency management experience
