This is a fully remote employment opportunity with a preference for the individual to reside in proximity to Chicago.

Summary
This position advances Awana child discipleship ministries by cultivating partnerships with churches, pastors, church networks, and denominations to equip the African American community to reach kids with the gospel and engage them in lifelong discipleship. Working within the strategic framework of Awana, this individual will ensure the successful development of a focused strategy for ministry sustainability and ongoing partnership growth. The ultimate objective is increasing church partners, convening a community of disciple-makers, effectively applying a belong-believe-become philosophy of weekly transformational discipleship, ultimately resulting in changed lives.
Responsibilities

  • Establishes a strategic plan and pathway for ministry growth and impact, aligning with the Awana strategic plan and cultural values.
  • Builds, mentors, and leads assigned team(s), ensures team processes and work meet team standards of operational and cultural excellence.
  • Stewards assigned budget(s), allocating appropriate expenses for effective ministry in line with desired goals and objectives.
  • Builds a sustainable financial model including, but not limited to, donor strategy and product/service income. Achieves consistent annual growth of existing and prospective donors.
  • Networks with and gathers local church leaders to cast the vision of child and youth discipleship, and encourages them to take steps toward an Awana child discipleship partnership.
  • Develops and nurtures partnership networks to expand ministry support for the purpose of reaching more kids with the Gospel.
  • Helps provide leadership and contextualization needs in supporting development of Awana resources and outreach, e.g., speaking into for the purpose of helping shape and customize content, curriculum, and messaging for urban and inner-city churches.
  • Conducts research and impact evaluation of ministry strategy(ies); present findings/recommendations to Awana leadership as requested.
  • Supports, upholds, and demonstrates the Awana cultural values in internal and external communications and relationships.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field desired, but not required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in ministry leadership required.
  • Experience building and mentoring a team required.
  • Proven fundraising and donor development required with understanding of development and stewardship principles and strategies.
  • Experience in public and motivational speaking required.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office and Google Suite skills desired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • General understanding of the Bible and the Christian church in its various expressions preferred.
  • Working knowledge of children’s inspirational or ministry space including demonstrated program/product familiarity preferred. Expertise in Awana resources, solutions, and content strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the US Church landscape and/or global nonprofits required.

Spiritual Life
Must be a born-again Christian. Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Must be in agreement with the Awana Doctrinal Statement. Must be in fellowship with the body of Christ through a local church. Regularly engages in reading the Holy Bible as a guide and standard for living.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee is also required to regularly utilize computer equipment (e.g., screens and keyboards) to perform work. The employee is often required to move about the work environment. Specific vision abilities required by this job included close vision. This position requires regular travel in the Chicagoland area and occasional out-of-area, overnight travel.
