Pace University seeks a dynamic, mission-driven leader to oversee key aspects of its development program and increase philanthropic support for the Performing Arts School. The Director of Development for Pace Performing Arts (DODPPA) reports to the Associate VP of Development and will be responsible for overseeing all development activities relating to the promotion and advancement of funding initiatives in support of performing arts programs. The DODPPA works closely with the Vice President of Development; Executive Director of PPA; members of the faculty; the performing arts community; alumni; college administrators; and staff to identify, cultivate and solicit annual, major, and planned gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations for all PPA, programs, and fundraising events. Along with the Executive Director of PPA, DODPPA will provide direct leadership to the PPA Board of Advisors.

Position Duties
  • Work closely with the Vice President, Associate Vice President of Development, Executive Director, senior members of the administration, and faculty in the Dyson College’s performing arts programs to develop a strategy to increase major gifts to PPA and to identify, engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors.
  • Create and execute a fundraising operating plan to meet the ambitious goals of PPA and the University.
  • Lead the discovery work to build a donor constituency and identify new major gifts prospects in an environment where the prospective donor constituency is not immediately obvious to the University and the performing arts program.
  • Manage a portfolio of 120 to 150 prospects and donors with the capacity to make gifts of $25,000 and higher.
  • Serve as a lead point of contact for the cultivation and solicitation of key major gift prospects.
  • Provide comprehensive, timely, and innovative stewardship of all gifts in ways that strengthen donors’ interest in, satisfaction with, and commitment to Pace University and our performing arts agenda.
  • Ensure effective, ongoing, and productive communication with donors and prospects, including proper outreach, follow-up, and stewardship of donor relationships.
  • Create persuasive verbal and written cases for supporting Pace’s performing arts key priorities.
  • Manage the fundraising efforts for the special events in support of PPA, including managing the event committee, soliciting sponsorships, and encouraging attendance.
  • Manage special projects and events for donors, friends, and the greater community in support of development and outreach efforts.
  • Coordinate advancement activities, donor, and guest performance visits, and other on-campus engagements to support stewardship and solicitation initiatives.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely recording of information about prospects and donors using appropriate University databases.
  • Provide the staff support for the President, Vice President, Associate Vice President, and Executive Director in maintaining deep relationships with donors and volunteers associated with PPA.
  • Meet with colleagues across campus to coordinate and execute strategies, utilizing experience and knowledge to resolve conflicts and build consensus.
  • Be a visible and enthusiastic advocate for Pace’s performing arts programs in the community and build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders who have the potential to provide philanthropic support to the program.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • At least 2 years of successful experience in fundraising in higher education or performing arts environment is preferred.
  • Well versed in the areas of prospect identification and management, personal solicitation, individual, corporation and foundation, stewardship, planned giving, and events management.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of or have campaign experience.
  • Must possess strong organizational and managerial leadership skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledgeable administrator capable of organizing and delivering services for Pace and supporting a comprehensive institutional advancement program with a high degree of professionalism, sensitivity, and integrity.

Work Hours
Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, occasional evenings and weekends required.

Salary Range
$95,000 - $115,000
