UW Medical Center - Northwest has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL TIME, DAY SHIFT, DIETARY UNIT CLERK. Under the direction of the Nutrition Supervisor, the Diet Clerk processes all patient menus, including those for the tray line and room service program. She/he coordinates food production according to established menus, answers telephone calls from patients and clinical staff, and prepares records and reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Receives and processes diet information such as dietary needs, restrictions, and preferences from patients and from the units, including diet changes
    Assists patients in selecting food choices as directed by clinical nutrition protocols
  • Meets/speaks with patients to understand preferences and special needs
  • Receives and processes diet orders via computer or telephone
  • Updates diet information, preferences, and orders in computerized kardex.
  • Utilizes this information source to verify patient menu compliance
  • Enters and reviews all patient menus, based on diet orders, allergy information, restrictions, and preferences
  • Generates tally guide for tray-line production staff at specified times
  • Communicates any additions to the production staff throughout the day
  • Checks tray-line for accuracy and appearance of patient meals, as needed
  • Answers questions and gives direction to department staff regarding patient meal production and delivery
  • Independently makes decisions relating to patient menu services
  • Answers telephone calls from patients and clinical staff
  • Utilizes good customer service, telephone etiquette, public relations, and communication skills
  • Prints computer-generated reports, labels, and menus
  • Files kardex records

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Washington State Food Handler's Permit
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations

    DESIRED:
  • An understanding of diets and food items
  • Six months to one year of food service experience working in an institutional setting is preferred
