Job Description:

The Dialysis Technician performs tasks and provides patient care as delegated by a Registered Nurse or physician consistent with practice standards. The Dialysis Technician provides competent treatment consistent with treatment prescription and assesses the patient's physiologic response to treatment and reports variation to the charge RN as indicated.

Posting Specifics

  • Entry Rates :

    • Uncertified: $18.02 or more, depending on experience

    • Certified: $19.29 or more, depending on experience

  • Shift Details : Part-time, 24 hours/week. Schedule will be 2/12 hour shifts with the potential to be 3/8 hour shifts. Hours and days vary, includes weekends and holidays

  • Department : Dialysis - McKay-Dee Hospital with the potential to float to Layton Hospital. Training will be split between McKay-Dee Hospital and Logan Regional Hospital. Mileage reimbursement from McKay-Dee Hospital to Logan will be covered on those days

This position could be filled as an uncertified or certified role depending on experience and certification.

Scope

  • It is expected that employees in this job code will complete technician training and obtaining dialysis certification within 18 months of hire.


Job Essentials

  • Prepares the patient for treatment as defined by current department policy.
  • Initiates, monitors, and terminates dialytic therapy.
  • Recognizes problems, demonstrates appropriate immediate action, and notifies responsible parties in a timely manner.
  • Discharges the patient in a safe condition as defined by current department policy.
  • Documents appropriately on the patient care record.
  • Participates in CQI monitoring and improvement activities and programs.


Minimum Qualifications

Uncertified Requirements:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Certified Requirements:

  • Current dialysis certification.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Ability to evaluate and interpret color coded test results on test strips.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
