Title: DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR - Full-time

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the leadership of the Executive Director, the Development Director will help build and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to further the purpose and goals of the CNY Lyme and Tick-Borne Disease Alliance (Alliance).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Development Strategy

  • Collaborates with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Development Committee and staff to create a development plan which increases revenue to support the Alliance.
  • Organizes and leads fundraising events, working with community partners, vendors, staff, volunteers and Board of Directors to ensure success of events.
  • Builds a fundraising strategy that leads donors to increasing levels of investment and engagement.
  • Assists in identifying and cultivating giving programs with small, medium and large individual or corporate donors.
  • Develops and leads multiple annual fundraising campaigns including but not limited to National Lyme Awareness Month, Giving Tuesday and end of year giving.
  • Manages the Alliance’s grant strategy and applications in partnership with the Executive Director.
  • Conducts research on prospective support from private foundations, government grants, and corporate, civic and individual donors.

Data & Reporting

  • Maintains development records in database system for all donations, donors, campaigns, etc.
  • Identifies and implements strategies for automating or improving efficiency of donor management.
  • Creates monthly fundraising reports and other database reports as needed.

Other

  • Informs Executive Director on current and future development-related programs and partnerships.
  • Works with the communications team to promote fundraising events using flyers, advertisements and digital marketing outreach.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of superior performance in fundraising or business development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • Experience securing individual major gifts (of at least $5,000) and donations/sponsorships via events.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead implementation of donor recognition and stewardship activities.
  • A combination of experience and education will be considered in lieu of meeting exact qualifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with fundraising or donor databases, Raiser’s Edge proficiency a plus.
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend changes to existing development efforts to achieve maximum opportunity potential.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills; ability to craft communications to reflect the audience.
  • Outstanding relationship building skills, with a proven ability to cultivate effective and authentic relationships across lines of difference; ability to influence others to achieve a shared vision.
  • Enthusiastic support of the Alliance’s purpose and the ability to champion it at many different levels.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage several milestones and projects efficiently.
  • Experience planning large-scale events and fundraisers a plus.
  • Solid computer-proficiency skills and abilities, including online meeting platforms (Zoom) and mobile devices as well as Microsoft Office and Google Suite, Slack and database knowledge a plus.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work alone and without supervision much of the time.

NEW INFECTIOUS DISEASE GUIDELINES - To reduce the spread of a new infectious disease that presents a clear and present danger and assure the Alliance is a health-related and safe organization, where associated individuals - board members, staff, contractors and volunteers - support and model excellent healthcare practices.

General Protection Measures

  • Follow NYS law and mandates and local healthcare and CDC guidelines.
  • Require all board members, staff, contractors and volunteers to be vaccinated if eligible, unless the individual has a doctor’s written exemption. An individual with an approved medical exemption will be required to present negative results per a PCR test on a weekly basis at the individual’s expense.

Non-Compliance

  • People affiliated with the Alliance are expected to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
