The Deputy Clerk-Customer Service position (Grade 9) This position works under the direction of the Accounting/Customer Service Supervisor and ultimately reports to the Clerk of Court. The Deputy Clerk must uphold the Oath of Office and keep the work of the Richmond J&DR District Court in the strictest of confidence. Ensures court’s instructions are executed and legal documents prepared with accuracy and in accordance with state and local policies The Deputy Clerk will be responsible for operational responsibilities in a high volume, fast paced office with frequent deadlines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Interact professionally with the general public, attorneys, and other court-related agencies; provide courteous customer service as a front-line customer service window clerk; receipt monies for payment of court fines and costs; receive, date-stamp, and disseminate petitions, motions, appeals, and all other filings according to documented procedures; answer phones courteously and give accurate information to callers. Ability to multitask, manage competing priorities and attention to detail are necessary in this position. This position requires subject matter expertise in the matters under the jurisdiction of the J&DR District Court. As a public-facing member of the court’s operation, empathy and trauma-informed customer service skills are crucial for success in this role. This position completes other tasks assigned by management and Clerk of Court. .

Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. Qualified applicants must possess a can-do attitude, be able to meet strict deadlines, dependable, and handle a high volume of paperwork. Favored applicants will be self-motivated, be able to work independently as well as part of a team and manage changing priorities. Preferred applicants will have attended college; have professional legal experience; have relevant judicial system experience in a similar position in a court setting; possess credible experience working in a trauma-informed environment; and have experience providing face-to-face customer service interactions in a challenging environment. Most competitive applicants will have considerable court, business, or office related experience. Applicants should be highly organized and possess significant knowledge, skills, and abilities in personnel management, time management, and performance management. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and advanced knowledge of office automation systems and computer software required.

Preferred Qualifications
Court experience and experience handling money preferred.
