Job Summary:

The Department of Geography at Texas Christian University seeks applicants for TCU’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Scholar Fellowship Program. Applicants working in all subfields / specializations within the discipline of Geography are welcome to apply. The Scholar will be asked to teach one section of an advanced undergraduate course on an area in their specialty, and will have opportunities for mentoring and research collaboration with TCU Geography faculty during the fellowship period.

This position is part of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Scholar Fellowship Program, which is designed to recruit emerging scholars from a range of disciplines who are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. School/College Description:

The Department of Geography at TCU has six full-time faculty with research specializations in Geographic Information Science as well as population, urban, economic, cultural, and environmental Geography. TCU is a leading, private teaching and research institution located about three miles from downtown Fort Worth and 25 miles from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Promotes innovative ways of involving our diverse student body in an accessible and engaged educational experience.
2. Advances new approaches to interdisciplinary research, scholarship or creative work that benefits our diverse communities and addresses complex global problems.
3. Contributes to inclusive excellence action research.
4. Expands collaborations with community and business partnerships, including those involving traditionally underserved groups.
5. Teaches up to one advanced undergraduate course on the area of their specialty per semester for the AddRan College of Liberal Arts, department of Geography.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree in geography.
  • Experience with engagements with students, innovations in research, scholarship and creative activities, and partnerships in outreach and service that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Award:

The salary is competitive with similar postdoctoral fellowships, and the position includes a generous benefits package including access to medical, vision, dental, and life insurance. This award also includes a fund for research‐related and program travel expenses. Each award is for 12 months and renewable for up to two years. This position will begin August 2023.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current research and issues in diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Skill in all components of Microsoft Office, to include Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Skill in Microsoft Windows navigation techniques.
  • Ability to analyze and accurately interpret information contained in a variety of data sets.
  • Ability to accurately document research results.
  • Ability to compose technical reports.
  • Ability to review and make recommendations to improve and streamline processes.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to consult with external groups and maintain positive relationships.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • This role is an on campus, in-person position.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
