Customer Service Representative

Position Overview:

Welcome to the Social Security Administration! We are one of the largest independent agencies in government with over 60,000 employees. A Customer Service Representative provides both in-person and telephone assistance to the public on a wide variety of subjects. Customer Service Representatives analyze and investigate situations to secure facts and reconcile discrepancies. Salary & Advancement:

The Customer Service Representative position is a career ladder position with a paid training program. Entry level into this position is typically at the GS-5 ($37,696) or GS-6 ($42,022) level with advancement opportunity to the GS-8 ($51,713-$67,231) level. Future career development includes, but is not limited to, the Claims Specialist. SSA offers numerous other development opportunities.

Technical Training:

A Customer Service Representative completes an intense on-line/ on-the-job training program. This program provides the necessary technical instruction in SSA programs and prepares new employees to interview, furnish information, and provide assistance to the general public and beneficiaries on matters relating to SSA programs and Medicare.

Work/Life Balance:

· Work 8 flexible hours daily 7 AM-5:30 PM M-F.

· Choose to work more than 8 hours per day? You are compensated with additional time off or overtime pay.

· 12 weeks of paid parental leave.

· You won’t take work home with you and you will not be “on call”.

· Approved employees can work from home up to 2 days each week.

Qualifications:

To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen, have excellent communication skills, a degree OR related experience:

Working with legal or medical records, documents or benefit/ financial accounts which involve applying laws, rules, or regulations and written established guidelines and procedures (e.g., basic accounting, accounts payable/ receivable); or

Experience conducting face to face and/ or telephone interviews to obtain/ provide information to resolve problems; or

4-year course of study above high school; or

Equivalent combinations of education and experience.

Pay: $37,696.00 - $46,696.00 per year
