JOB SUMMARY: The Custodian is responsible for maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in assigned areas which will be observed through the economical use of supplies, proper routine care and applicable use of equipment.   • Execute, according to department schedule and cleaning procedures, service, clean and supply assigned areas.
  • Execute the removal of hazardous and/or infectious waste while adhering to approved infection control procedures. Empty wastebaskets and transport other trash and waste to disposal areas.
  • Clean floors, common walk ways and other community areas.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Administer cleaning products. Spot clean between washings and disinfect when necessary.
  • Report any concerns of structural or equipment wear, defects or malfunctioning.
  • Respond to emergency housekeeping accidents, removing carpeting and water extraction in the case of flooding.
  • Initiate request for supplies and equipment as well as confirm chemicals are labeled and stored correctly.
  • As assigned, perform deep cleaning of carpets and refinishing of floors.
  • Assist other departments with cleaning and other janitorial assignments.
  • Comply with applicable federal, state and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures.
  • Obtain knowledge and demonstrate the principles of Living Lifespace, person directed care and successful aging philosophies and their inherent core values of commitment, respect, compassion, dedication, teamwork and quality. Team member will support, actively participate and act in accordance with the principles of the Living Lifespace service culture and be familiar with and fluent in the language and service pillars of Living Lifespace.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • No educational requirement. Must have ability to perform basic arithmetic, understand measurements and follow written and oral instructions.
  • No experience required. A willingness to learn is needed.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with residents, vendors and team members.


ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: The physical responsibilities of this position constantly require effective climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, smelling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. This position often involves medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned or make general observations of the community; close visual acuity, such as reading printed material, inspection of small defects, operating equipment and using measurement devices; perform activities with visual acuity within arm’s reach such as operating machines. The functions of this position are conducted in a temperature controlled environment and not substantially exposed to adverse environment conditions and may be routinely be exposed to noise, vibration, working hazards such as proximity to moving parts, mechanical equipment, exposure to heat, exposure to chemicals, work in close quarters, narrow aisles or passage ways, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, cleaning chemicals, dust, odors and a variety of pets.


INTELLECTUAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The occupant of this position must be able to perform the responsibilities of the position well under pressure. The position requires adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. This position requires the ability to deal with and find resolution to problems and maintain a productive working relationship with team members, and may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs and requests of others. It also requires adaptability to fluctuate between priorities on a daily basis while being responsive to needs as they arise.
