Summary of Position

A new position in the Sayre Hospitality Group, this role will be ever evolving and dynamic. Initially, the focus will be providing culinary development and culinary team supervision at our new restaurant, Junipers. Once the restaurant is firmly established in its culinary identity and operation, this person will then assist other entities of the Sayre Hospitality Group to grow in culinary offerings, culinary team development and presence in the hospitality industry.

Using prior culinary experience and expertise, in the role of culinary developer, this culinary leader will:

  • Develop new recipes and menu items in both a supervisory and support position; this includes developing 5 new menu items monthly, which can be based on seasonality of food products and the calendar (ie: winter, holiday, summer, etc.)
  • Implement new menu items through experimenting, modeling, teaching
  • Assist in bulk bottling, canning, and preparation of signature food items
  • Assist in culinary growth and efficiencies across the various entities of SHG
  • Assist culinary teams in bulk food preparation for weekend catering jobs and restaurant items
  • Any other duties assigned as needed

Using prior culinary experience and expertise, in the role of culinary team supervisor, this culinary leader will:

  • Work with the culinary team to enhance and improve culinary techniques and processes
  • Supervise the culinary activities in the kitchen at Junipers, and other locations as the position responsibilities shift
  • Ensure culinary team members follow all safety and health requirements and expectations
  • Oversee the organization and cleanliness of the kitchen at Junipers
  • Ensure the quality and presentation of menu items meet the high standards of Sayre Hospitality Group
  • Provide instruction and correction when necessary
  • Complete employee performance evaluations and reviews when instructed to do so
  • Any other duties assigned as needed

Skills & Qualifications

  • Must have previous culinary experience; prefer restaurant environment experience
  • Must have an excellent attitude and work ethic
  • The ability to boost/maintain company morale
  • Creating a positive and fun work environment in order to foster camaraderie and teamwork
  • The ability to effectively handle situations common in the hospitality and culinary work environments
  • The ability to cook many styles of food, with many ingredients and flavor profiles
  • The ability to manage projects with competing deadlines
  • The ability to be a self-starter with little to no supervision; being a forward thinking culinary expert who seeks out answers to questions and solutions to problems
  • The ability to lead by example, teach with patience and mentor with the purpose of improving the work products of all culinary team members

Position Details

  • Full Time:45-55 hours a week

30 Hours at Junipers Restaurant - This expectation will change as Junipers becomes fully operational

  • Additional hours between VCC Smithville & Greystone Kitchens
  • Salaried position of $55,000 annually
