Position Details

The Crisis Co-Responder (CCR) will, working closely with law enforcement, provide trauma informed, survivor centered and coordinated response to individuals experiencing trauma and crises, responding to mental health and Child Welfare Emergency Services, in the counties served. The Crisis Co-Responder will provide support to individuals, de-escalate crises and provide access to resources and services that offer appropriate level of care in the community. The Crisis Co-Responder will participate in a 24-hr crisis on call rotation responding to the following counties: Jackson County, Scott County, Cedar County, Clinton County, and Muscatine County; have reliable transportation, and a flexible schedule to accommodate program and survivor needs. They will work varying hours as assigned and work closely with law enforcement and other crisis response services in the region. This position requires a flexible schedule that may include working some nights, weekends, and holidays.


Position Specifics

  • Position Hours: Primarily Monday-Friday (8:30 AM - 5:00 PM) some occasional evenings and special events.
  • Position located in Cedar, IA. May travel to the following counties: Scott, Jackson, Clinton, and Muscatine.
  • Full-Time position with an hourly rate of $24.04

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Financial

  • Meets or exceeds budgeted financial expectations for the program.
  • Will seek prior approval and work with the direct supervisor for any purchases that need to be made.
  • Submit all receipts within 24 hours of purchase.
  • Provides timesheet documentation for all funding sources related to the position.

Operations

  • Operate from the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS).
  • Ensure free, voluntary, non-discriminatory, accessible services for all clients.
  • Work as part as multi-disciplinary team to coordinate wrap around supports.
  • Implement an effective outreach program for identified underserved populations within service areas assigned.
  • Assist with maintaining a library of information resources (books, pamphlets, articles, etc.) relevant to survivor understanding, recovery, and advocacy.
  • Follow agency policy on confidentiality.
  • Keep Supervisor informed of relevant issues.
  • Actively participate in program and agency problem identification and resolution.
  • Complete job-related paperwork and data entry in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Proactively support the development and attainment of program and agency program goals.

Client/External

  • Respond to individual in mental health crisis as requested by law enforcement, fire, EMS, and/or dispatch.
  • Respond with law enforcement if safety is of concern.
  • Provide and complete high-risk assessment in the community
  • Provide support of individual’s crisis stabilization plan with individual
  • Serve as individual/family point of contact in the community
  • Assist and support coordinating community services, programs and resources based on needs as appropriate.
  • Provide comprehensive, trauma- informed, survivor centered services to survivors. These services will consist of but are not limited to the following: legal advocacy, individual advocacy, information and referral, outreach and awareness, training, community collaboration, emergency client assistance and transportation, crisis response and crisis counseling, and systems advocacy.
  • Provide information about the criminal justice process in its entirety including but not limited to the investigation, pre-trial procedures, trial and appeal, in person, by phone, or in writing.
  • Provide support during legal processes including assistance with victim impact statements.
  • Help in filing court/legal documents and victim compensation claims.
  • Assist survivors with funeral arrangements of their deceased loved one.
  • Assist with statements to the media.
  • Provide individual and group counseling/crisis intervention.
  • Provide personal and systems advocacy on behalf of the survivor/victims including housing, economic, medical and sheltering advocacy.
  • Provide community organizing and collaborating with related professionals/agencies.
  • Direct client assistance.
  • Develop, implement and schedule educational presentations on related issues in the public sector including training for law enforcement, schools, and non-profit agencies.
  • Implement community awareness activities regarding survivors and their needs.
  • Participate in community relations/networking.
  • Represent the program and agency positively in all public and community contacts.
  • Provide immediate response to survivors as requested by law enforcement, medical professionals and other community partners.
  • Ensure follow-up communication for survivors as they are identified through victim-witness coordinators, law enforcement, the media, or other sources.
  • Provide ongoing support to survivors through face-to-face contacts, cards, telephone calls, and other means.
  • Provide crisis counseling for adult & child survivors.
  • Advocate for victims within legal, medical, housing & social systems.
  • Facilitate support and action groups for victims.
  • Ensure all appropriate documentation of client contacts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

People

  • Participate in, at minimum, monthly individual supervisions with a direct supervisor.
  • Creates positive, inclusive, safe, client-led, and outcome-oriented culture.
  • Serves as a public face of the Agency by interfacing with regulatory, community, and funder leadership.
  • Ensures that communication with outside parties is coordinated and effectively builds positive relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field required.
  • 2 years of experience in the field of substance abuse or mental health; or any equivalent combination of training and experience required.
  • Valid drivers’ license in good standing and vehicle with appropriate auto insurance required. Must be able to pass the motor vehicle record background check.


Must have current proof of car insurance, able to pass a driving background check, and have reliable transportation.
