SUMMER DATES: MAY 15, 2023 – OCTOBER 13, 2023

Operating under special use permit with the US Forest Service since 1983, Camp Dodge has served as the base of operations for the AMC’s White Mountain staff and volunteer trail maintenance efforts. After significant renovations and facility improvements in 2019, Camp Dodge re-opened in 2020. After a successful 2022, we look ahead to the 2023 season as an opportunity to expand our operations, serving as staff housing for all AMC trail staff, a hub for trail volunteer programming, and a training center for regional conservation partners.

Camp Dodge is located four miles north of Pinkham Notch Visitor Center within the White Mountain National Forest and enjoys one of the finest views of the Northern Presidential Range. Housing is available on-site at Camp Dodge if desired.

What you’ll be doing:

  • The Camp Crew report directly to the Camp Dodge Coordinator, to ensure that all Camp Dodge operations are safe, efficient, and welcoming to all guests and residents.
  • The Camp Crew share the primary responsibility for the cleanliness, sanitation, and grounds-keeping at Camp Dodge, which includes:
    • Regularly cleaning restrooms, showers, laundry rooms, bunk houses, dining spaces and common areas
    • Mowing, trimming, pruning, weeding, and gardening
    • Trash and recycling removal
    • Composting
  • The Camp Crew assist the Camp Coordinator with setup of meeting spaces for trainings and workshops.
  • The Camp Crew also assist with all meal preparation and service, under the direction of the Head Cook, to provide all meals at scheduled times, as well as occasional snacks, coffee breaks, receptions, etc.
  • The Camp Crew fill in as needed to provide guest services and facility support in the main office at Camp Dodge.
  • Minor facility and equipment repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Coordinate the use of the AMC fleet vehicles at Camp Dodge throughout the season.
  • Promote and provide up to date information on the mission, services and programs of the AMC.
  • Attend training at Camp Dodge, online, or at other facilities as needed.
  • Consistently request feedback from staff and guests and implement improvements based on feedback.
  • Adhere to all AMC, state and federal protocols for food service and facility sanitation.
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for:

  • Prior experience with cleaning, grounds-keeping, or working in a commercial kitchen is preferred.
  • The ability to be self-motivated and solution-oriented is essential.
  • Exceptional customer service, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a diverse team while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Flexibility with regard to schedule is required. This position starts on May 15, with two season length options (summer season through end of August, or until October 13). Working on weekends, nights and holidays will be required. The work week is 40 hours, with additional hours required at times. Some work days may be split into early morning and evening shifts.
  • Familiarity with the White Mountain National Forest and enthusiasm for AMC programs and mission is preferred.
  • Commitment to creating equitable and inclusive environment for all of Camp Dodge's guests, employees, and constituents.
  • Understanding of health codes and standards
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, stand and walk, bend, twist, and reach.
  • Utilize step ladders and cleaning equipment.

Compensation and benefits:

  • Salary Range: $14.00 / hour
  • Onsite housing + meals provided at Camp Dodge for $45 per week
  • Free use of AMC Destinations: 4 nights per year
  • Free annual AMC membership
  • Health Plan with Optional Vision + Dental Insurance when working 30+ hours per week for 6+ months
  • Matching 403(b): 4% with vesting schedule
  • Paid Sick Time: eligible to accrue up to 10 days
