The Central Receiving Courier will support all college departments by coordinating receipts, tracking, processing records, delivering purchased goods, and shipping materials from college vendors to all college campus locations and to outside entities, vendors, etc. Provide prompt and accurate delivery of goods, materials, and mail by using sound management and control principles to ensure a stable operation and inventory controls. Courier Services ensures distribution of goods, materials, and mail to off campus user departments, including the same transfer of accountability. Determine pickup and delivery needs of each college location to determine the most time-efficient routes. Ensure that all inter-campus movement of mail and materials is timely to user departments.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Receive and transport goods purchased by the College, including delivery of all materials acquired by purchase order, materials delivered to the College by UPS and other common carriers, materials requiring delivery from one College campus to another, and special handling of confidential documents. Materials include many fragile and high dollar items that are awkward to transport because of weight and size.
  • Service all college sites as well as providing service to and from a variety of metropolitan locations including vendors, local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Safeguard all resources against theft, loss, or destruction.
  • Operate a variety of delivery vehicles, material handling, recycling equipment, forklifts, pallet jacks, motorized and manual devices in a highly safe manner to avoid injury to self and others, as well as safeguarding materials being transported.
  • Plan travel routes effectively to account for road conditions, timeliness of delivery/pick-up points, and most efficient use of time and energy.
  • Use the computerized tracking hardware and software for each item transported on campus, and signature logs for items picked up and delivered off campus.
  • Act as College contact with the USPS for all Business Center and Business Acceptance unit transactions, including required paperwork, processing and entry of Standard A and other classifications of mail daily.
  • Provide project specific information, answer questions, and negotiate exception acceptance when required.
  • Transport other College mail to and from the USPS multiple times daily.
  • Receive and pickup packages for transport.
  • Organize for storage and or disposal for college property and provide other requested assistance to the Purchasing Department as it relates to handling of new and surplus property.
  • Maintain accountability by following documentation processes for all pick-ups and deliveries. Requires physically demanding work in varying and harsh environments and safe driving in all types of Utah weather conditions.
  • Provide assistance to Receiving Technician, Recycling Aids, Mail Clerks, and other college services personnel through ongoing assignments to assist in areas.
  • Receive incoming shipments, process metered mail, and other duties as assigned.
  • Use College purchasing card or petty cash funds to select, purchase, and deliver low-dollar goods from local area vendors as specified requests and ensure return of required records for audit inspection.
  • Coordinate with Fleet / Surplus / MDC / Recycling Supervisor all vendor purchases using VISA Purchasing Card, Limited Cash Draft, or Petty Cash and coordinate with Facilities Services accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all purchases adhere to College policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that services meet the demands of increasing enrollment with high quality services and continued responsiveness to the needs of service users.
  • Ensure that all records are complete and accurate and maintain records for audit inspection.
  • Work with other Facility areas to ensure a smooth area of operation.
  • Follow all College policies and procedures.
  • Maintain delivery vehicles and equipment in proper operating condition, including fuel, lubrication, tune-ups, tires, etc., and maintain necessary logs and service information.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
One (1) year related, full time work experience.
Must have valid Utah Driver’s License with good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree.
Four (4) years full time related work experience in receiving, distribution, recycling, inventory, and warehousing.
Supervisory experience.
Class A or B Utah Driver’s License with good record.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Knowledge of basic report writing and record keeping.
  • Good people skills with emphasis on verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill in operation of warehouse equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, recycling equipment, and delivery carts.
  • Able to safely drive and operate a wide verity of vehicles.
  • Follow directions and give instructions.
  • Ability to move, load, and unload up to 75 pounds repetitively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Work with other departments within the College; Surplus, Fleet Maintenance, Recycling and Facilities Services.
Knowledge of the Sprocket work order system to record time and materials and work orders. Receive PO and other new purchases into SLCCBuy system.
