Job Summary:

This position supervises Train Dispatchers and resources to ensure safe and expeditious movement of trains and other on-track equipment for an assigned territory. Coordinates Maintenance of Way curfews and Work Windows for minimal disruption of train movement.


Applies and enforces guidelines to ensure compliance and equitable application of policies, procedures, practices, programs, processes, and systems and makes suggestions for continued improvement or increased efficiencies. Delivers operational results that align with department commitments. Ensures safety is first and foremost in the efficient movement of trains. Plans and prioritizes work to meet business unit commitments aligned with company goals and financial responsibilities. Supervises the daily activities of field Operations teams. Participates in the interview and selection process, provides training and mentorship, offers career development guidance, and is engaged in performance management. Provides timely and constructive coaching and feedback; develops staff and provides challenging opportunities. Reports to a people leader at a higher career level.


Accountabilities

  • Conducts operational testing of staff and coaches for improvement.
  • Manages scheduling of the Dispatch staff so that NOC (Network Operating Center) overtime is managed in a cost effective manner.
  • Coordinates movement with connecting carriers so that resources can be managed or shared.
  • Ensures the company velocity goals are achieved
  • Measures hours-of-service requirements and secures delays when necessary.
  • Ensures MCS system is updated with any exception data for train make-up or car scheduling.
  • Manages UP (Union Pacific) and BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) transit time on joint tracks to ensure benchmarks are achieved.
  • Manages and distributes locomotives when needed.
  • Exemplifies KCS Vision, Values, and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Shift work to include nights, weekends, and holidays

Preferred

  • 2 years dispatch/NOC experience preferred
  • Previous Kansas City Southern experience

Working Conditions

  • This job is required to pay monthly Union dues.
  • Shift work is an essential function of this job. Employees must have the ability and willingness to support mission critical railroad operations 24 hours per day/7 days per week, working various shifts as assigned. Schedule assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays.
  • On-call responsibilities are an essential function of this job. Employees must have the ability and willingness to support operations of mission critical systems and/or processes 24 hours per day/7 days per week. On-call assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays. This position may require minimal travel up to 10% of the time.
